Abstract: Systems and methods for use with haptic devices. A control system for haptic devices determines a first course of action based on a user's motion. Prior to implementing the first course of action, the control system determines if the first course of action would lead to instability in the haptic device which could cause an unsafe situation such as failure of its components. If the first course of action would lead to instability, the control device determines a second course of action that would not lead to instability and implements this second course of action. To assist in this second course of action and to prevent potential oscillation in the haptic device, the control system also selectively dampens a projected action of the haptic device. A haptic device using such a control system is also disclosed.

Abstract: A pressurizing device includes a main body and a pressurizing mechanism having a controlling assembly and a pressing assembly arranged on the controlling assembly and movable relative to the main body. The controlling assembly has a base body arranged on the main body and a controlling member having a pivot portion and a driving portion, the pivot portion is pivoted to the base body so that the controlling member is swingable between pressurizing and releasing positions, and the pressing assembly has a controlled portion comovable with the driving portion and a pressurizing portion for pressing an object. When the controlling member swings toward the pressurizing position, the driving portion drives the controlled portion to make the pressurizing portion press the object; when the controlling member swings toward the releasing position, the driving portion drives the controlled portion to depressurize the object.

Abstract: An ergonomic massage therapy apron that overcomes the discomfort caused to clients when using present massage therapy holsters and also prevents her uniform from being stained. The massage therapy apron comprises of an apron, the apron has a left, a right, a top, a bottom, a front and a back side. The left side of the apron is a strap that has a first hook and loop attachment means on the front of the apron that is adjacent to the end of the left side. The right side of the apron defines an apron body that runs from the right side of the apron toward the left side of the apron, the apron body has a height of at least 8 inches at the left side of the apron body and tapers as it goes toward the right side of the apron body. A first holsters is defined on the front side of the apron body and is adjacent to left side of the apron body. The right side of the apron has a hook and loop attachment means that is on the back of the apron that is adjacent to the right side of the apron. The apron is used to promote comfort to the patient being massaged and to prevent the dirtying of the therapist's uniform.

Abstract: An assist device includes an upper-body belt attached to the upper body of a user, first and second belts attached to the knees, a first wire coupling the upper-body belt to the first belt, a second wire crossing the first wire, a third wire coupling the upper-body belt to the second belt, a fourth wire crossing the third wire, and a motor coupled to one end of each of the first to fourth wires. When assisting users with walking, tensions equal to a first threshold value or greater are applied to one of the first and second wires and one of the third and fourth wires by the motor at different times. When detecting slacking of the upper-body belt, tensions equal to the first threshold value or greater are simultaneously applied to one of the first and second wires and one of the third and fourth wires by the motor.

Abstract: A spinal decompression belt for reducing the pressure exerted on a user's ankles when using an inversion table. The spinal decompression belt includes an elongated pad to be disposed around a user's abdomen and that can be secured by overlapping the end portions thereof. A cushioning member is removably securable to the interior of the first end for providing additional support to the user's abdomen. The elongated pad further includes an elongated strap therearound that includes an adjustable fastener for securing the belt to the user. An extension strap having an adjustable fastener thereon extends from the front of the elongated pad to the rear thereof and can be positioned between the legs of the user. The extension strap further includes a fastener, such as a ring, having a pair of ankle bar straps thereon that can be wrapped around the ankle bars of an inversion table.

Abstract: The present invention provides a body lift-assist walker device for gait training is provided by the invention. The patient wears a pressurized body suit over all or a portion of his lower body, and the suit is attached to the walker device. A positive pressure or vacuum condition is applied to the interior of the suit, so that the differential pressure condition across the suit offloads a portion of the patient's body weight to the ground through the supportive walker device to make it easier for him to walk or run. The walker device also includes a lift-assisted body weight support device operated by a constant force mechanism like a pneumatic air cylinder that can lift the patient from a sitting position to a standing position with minimal physical effort. The device provides a portable and convenient system for persons undergoing physical therapy for treatment of gait or balance problems following an injury, stroke, or neurological disorder, or for use by elderly or disabled persons who have encounter difficulties in the sit-to-stand movement or walking.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to a knee-position control system having a knee engagement pad, a lower-leg control member and an upper-leg control member, the knee engagement pad configured to naturally position a user's knee in response to movement of a foot-rest of a natural-gait therapy system. In an illustrative embodiment, the upper-leg control member may pivot about a point substantially axially coincident with a user's hip. In some embodiments, the upper-leg control member may be pivotally coupled to the lower-leg control member at a pivot point substantially axially coincident with a user's knee. The lower-leg control member may be pivotably coupled to the foot rest at a pivot point substantially axially coincident with a user's ankle. The knee-position control system may advantageously position a user's knee in a natural position relative to both the user's ankle and the user's hip, in response to movement of the user's foot.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for adjusting a clamping force of a fixing portion of a walking assistance apparatus is disclosed. The apparatus and method may measure pressures at two points positioned between a fixing portion and a body of a user, calculate a clamping force of the fixing portion based on the pressures, and control the fixing portion to output the clamping force of the fixing portion.

Abstract: An exoskeleton for applying force to at least one lower limb of a user includes a control system with a sensor interface for sensor signals; a power interface for transmitting control signals to the powered joint; a processor coupled to the sensor and the power interfaces; and a computer-readable medium storing a computer program executable on the processor with code sections for: estimating a configuration of a body of the user with respect to a gravity vector based on the sensor signals; computing a control torque for the powered joint that compensates gravitational dynamics of the user based on the configuration; calculating a gravitational energy gradient for the powered joint; attenuating the control torque based on the gravitational energy gradient; computing a final control torque based on the attenuated control torque, and configuring the control signals based on the attenuated control torque.
