Abstract: The continuous demand for capacity and the limited available spectrum in wireless and wired communication has led to reliance on advanced modulation techniques to dramatically increase the number of bits per hertz per second. This demand in capacity and using the higher order constellations shorten the link range, and as a result, system gain becomes an important characteristic. The modulation techniques described here improve the system gain by, e.g., as much as 2.5 dB in high order modulations such as 4096-QAM. The modulation techniques include reducing the peak to average ratio and adding shaping gain. These techniques dramatically improve the system capacity, system gain, power consumption and system cost.

Abstract: Various implementations provide one or more of improved programming channel change time and/or overall quality of television reception by using multiple transmission channels. In one particular implementation, a first layer of a picture is encoded using a first level of error protection. The encoded first layer has a first decoding delay. A second layer of the picture is encoded using a second level of error protection. The encoded second layer has a second decoding delay. The second level of error protection is lower than the first level of error protection, and the second decoding delay is longer than the first decoding delay. Other implementations provide a signal or signal structure carrying the encoded first and second layers. Yet further implementations decode the encoded first and second layers.

Abstract: In a method for transmitting video for a display panel between a transmitter in electronic communication with a receiver over a wireless communication channel, the method includes: receiving, by a transmitter, a frame of video data from a data source; reorganizing, by the transmitter, the frame of video data into a plurality of packets according to levels of importance of bits of the frame of video data; generating, by the transmitter, a tag for each of the packets, the tags corresponding to different relatively levels of importance of the packets; performing, by the transmitter, different protection techniques for each of the packets based on the tag corresponding to each of the packets; and transmitting, by the transmitter, the packets and the tags to the receiver for display on the display panel such that each packet is transmitted according to the different protection techniques based on their corresponding tagging.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication at a wireless device. One method includes transmitting, during a TTI, a first message using a first MCS; and transmitting, during the TTI, a second message using a second MCS. The first message includes indications of a location, a heading, and a speed of the wireless device, and the second MCS is higher than the first MCS. Another method includes decoding a first message received during a TTI; performing a Doppler effect compensation for a second message based at least in part on the first message; and decoding the second message based at least in part on the Doppler effect compensation. The second message is also received during the TTI. The first message is decoded in accordance with a first MCS, and the second message is decoded in accordance with a second MCS, with the second MCS being higher than the first MCS.

If the number of information bits of the UCI falls inside a specific range when different types of UCI are transmitted through the same PUCCH format, a bit sequence of each of the UCI are channel-coded by aligning/interleaving, wherein the aligning/interleaving is carried out so that the UCI having high importance are channel-coded so as to have better decoding performance.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for broadcast signal frame using layered division multiplexing are disclosed. An apparatus for generating broadcast signal frame according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a combiner configured to generate a multiplexed signal by combining a core layer signal and an enhanced layer signal at different power levels; a power normalizer configured to reduce the power of the multiplexed signal to a power level corresponding to the core layer signal; a time interleaver configured to generate a time-interleaved signal by performing interleaving that is applied to both the core layer signal and the enhanced layer signal; and a frame builder configured to generate a broadcast signal frame including a preamble for signaling time interleaver information shared by the core layer signal and the enhanced layer signal, using the time-interleaved signal.

Abstract: A receiver for receiving data in a broadcast system comprises a broadcast receiver that receives via said broadcast system a receiver input data stream comprising a plurality of channel symbols represented by constellation points in a constellation diagram, a demodulator that demodulates said channel symbols into codewords, and a decoder that decodes said codewords into output data words. A redundancy calculator determines a required amount of redundancy data required for correct demodulation and decoding by use of the originally received channel symbol and additional redundancy data. A broadband request unit requests, if demodulation of a channel symbol and/or decoding of a codeword is erroneous or likely to fail, a required amount of redundancy data via a broadband system, that is received by a broadband receiver via said broadband system. Said demodulator and/or said decoder is configured to use said redundancy data for demodulation and decoding, respectively.
