Abstract: A device for lacquer transfer is disclosed having a frame, a nozzle with a dispensing end for dispensing lacquer, and a transfer roller with a circumferential lateral wall, a circumferential outer contact surface of the lateral wall comprises several depressions, wherein the nozzle and the transfer roller are arranged such that lacquer is dispensable from the dispensing end onto the outer contact surface and into the depressions, wherein the transfer roller is configured to roll with the outer contact surface on a work surface of a workpiece for transferring the lacquer from the outer contact surface and from the depressions to the work surface of the workpiece. A first hardening unit is formed as a UV-light unit configured for partially hardening the lacquer in a contactless way by emitting UV-light, the first hardening unit is arranged within an interior space defined by the transfer roller. The lateral wall of the transfer roller is transparent for UV-light, and the first hardening unit is arranged such that UV-light is emittable towards the work surface in a first operational area of the work surface to partially harden the lacquer in the first operational area.

Abstract: The disclosure concerns a thin light weight essentially water impervious UV resistant non-abrasive traction imparting surfacing material for marine applications adhered to a solid non-elastomeric structural surface and a process for production of it. The surfacing material is a between about 2 and 4 mm thick flexible cured layer of a trowelable adhesive sealant into which were deeply embedded sufficient elastomeric granules with a maximum dimension between about 0.5 and 4 mm to cover the surface of the adhesive sealant layer before it cured. It is prepared by applying an evenly distributed layer of the adhesive sealant onto the structural surface with a trowel or similar means. Then elastomeric granules with a maximum dimension between about 0.5 and 4 mm are distributed on said layer to essentially cover the surface and then deeply embedded into the adhesive sealant layer. A rolling pin may be used to embed the granules.

The Mayer rod and the flexible web at a contacting area are impressed into the back-up roll with a machine-direction nip width W and a nip engagement depth D, which enables formation of a coating having a substantially uniform thickness.

Abstract: A coating composition comprises a functionalized epoxy resin and a fluoroalkyl-modified particle, such as activated carbon or silica. The functionalized epoxy resin is a ternary polymer composition comprising one or more epoxy resin moieties linked to a polyethylene backbone through an oxygen atom, fluoroalkyl(poly)propionyl groups being grafted to the polyethylene backbone. The coating compositions have superhydrophobic properties useful for self-cleaning surfaces and bubble release from sensors.

Abstract: A method of coating a substrate with a particulate coating composition is disclosed that creates a coated substrate having a controlled, nonuniform surface property profile that varies along at least one primary dimension. The substrate is positioned on a textured template. An effective amount of the particulate coating composition is buffed onto a surface of the substrate with the at least one orbital applicator moving in a plane parallel to surface in a plurality of directions relative to a point on the surface in an orbital manner while at least one process variable is changed during the coating of the substrate. Process variable that can be varied during coating include application time, application pressure, coating temperature, the contour of the textured template, orbital speed, web speed, and the particulate coating composition.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing a coated analytic substrate using a compact and portable automated instrument located in the laboratory setting at the point of use which can consistently produce one or a plurality of coated analytic substrates “on demand” for using the analytic substrate immediately after coating, preferably without a step of rinsing the coated analytic substrate before use. The apparatus preferably uses applicator cartridges having a reservoir containing the coating compositions used to form the coatings. Preferably the cartridges are removable and interchangeable to facilitate the production of individual analytic substrates having different coatings or different coating patterns. These coated analytic substrates have superior specimen adhesion characteristics due to the improved quality of the coatings applied by the coating apparatus and due to the quickness with which the coated analytic substrates can be used in the lab after production.
