Abstract: A leg support exoskeleton is strapped on as wearable device to support its user during squatting. The exoskeleton includes a knee joint connected to a first line and a second link, which is configured to allow flexion and extension motion between the first link and the second link. A force generator has a first end that is rotatably connected to the first link. A constraining mechanism is connected to the second link and has at least two operational positions. In a first operational position, the second end of the force generator engages the constraining mechanism, where the first link and the second link flex relative to each other. In a second operational position, the second end of the force generator does not engage the constraining mechanism; the first link and the second link are free to flex and extend relative to each other.

Abstract: A control method for a lower limb rehabilitation apparatus for rehabilitation of the lower limbs of a user includes the step of putting an exoskeleton on the lower limbs of the user, the step of setting a trigger condition, the step of using EMG muscle sensors to detect EMG signals from specific muscles of the user when the user is performing specific actions, the step of judging whether the sensing result meets the trigger condition, and the step of re-setting the triggering condition without moving the exoskeleton if the sensing result does not meet the trigger condition, or, the step of triggering a motion generator to provide a control signal to a control unit for controlling the exoskeleton in moving the lower limbs of the user to perform specific actions if the sensing result meets the trigger condition.

Abstract: A lower extremity mobilizer for use in rehabilitation is provided. A seat is slidably maintained upon a base, with a foot support brace being provided at an end of the base to receive the foot of a leg provided for arthrokinematic treatment. A cord and pulley system is provided between the seat and the end of the base. In use, a patient is seated with a foot received by the foot support brace. The patient provides arthrokinematic motion to his leg by pulling himself and the seat toward the end of the device having the foot support brace. The procedure is undertaken in a closed chain motion, with the foot constantly engaging the foot support brace, and is done so as a rate, timing and extent under the control of the patient.

Abstract: An apparatus for applying traction force to a spine of a user has a chassis with an upper surface. A user lies on the upper surface with the spine extending generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of the chassis. Two members extend from the chassis on opposing sides of the longitudinal axis, each member being positioned to engage an armpit. A lever is pivotally attached to the chassis for rotation about a lateral axis, and a pad coupled to the lever contacts a proximal portion of each upper leg when the leg is bent forward at a hip joint. A force applied to the lever is transmitted through the pad to each upper leg and opposed by the members, thereby applying traction force for decompressing the spine. The force may be applied by the arms of the user or by a motor.

Abstract: A limb moving assembly facilitates movement of a limb which is otherwise inhibited from free movement without assistance. The assembly includes a strap to be looped beneath a foot of a user. The strap facilitates a leg of the user to be moved when the leg has been injured or is otherwise immobile. A pad is coupled to the strap. The foot is selectively positioned on the pad.

Abstract: The control method for lower-limb assistive exoskeletons assists human movement by producing a desired dynamic response on the human leg. Wearing the exoskeleton replaces the leg's natural admittance with the equivalent admittance of the coupled system formed by the leg and the exoskeleton. The control goal is to make the leg obey an admittance model defined by target values of natural frequency, resonant peak magnitude and zero-frequency response. The control achieves these objectives objective via positive feedback of the leg's angular position and angular acceleration. The method achieves simultaneous performance and robust stability through a constrained optimization that maximizes the system's gain margins while ensuring the desired location of its dominant poles.

Abstract: A walking assistance apparatus includes: a walking assistance attachment to be attached to a leg of a human body and including a variable stiffness mechanism having stiffness that is changeable in a direction where the human bends and stretches the knee by motor driving; and a controller. The controller includes a foot-end motion calculation part configured to receive an output from a sensor to detect motion of a leg and successively calculate a relative velocity of a foot end with reference to a waist of the human body; and a leg state determination part configured to determine shift timing between a swing phase and a stance phase based on the relative velocity of the foot end.
