Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for producing polymers that are suitable for absorbing and storing aqueous liquids, and to polymers that can be obtained by this method. This invention further related to the use of such polymers. The method comprises the following steps: i. crosslinking free-radical polymerization of a monomer composition M comprising a) at least one monomer A having an ethylenic double bond and at least one neutralizable acid group or a group hydrolyzable to a neutralizable acid group, b) optionally one or more comonomers B which are different than the monomers A and have one ethylenic double bond, and c) 0.05 to 10% by weight, based on the total amount of monomers A and B, of at least one crosslinker C, in the presence of at least one polysaccharide-comprising substance S, in an aqueous liquid, where the weight ratio of the monomer composition M to the substance S is in the range from 9:1 to 1:9; and ii. at least partial neutralization of the acid groups and/or hydrolysis of the groups hydrolyzable to neutralizable acid groups in the polymer obtained in step i.; wherein the polymerization and/or the neutralization is performed in the presence of urea.

Abstract: Disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition for treating hypercholesterolemia. The pharmaceutical composition includes a polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as active ingredients. The polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer is formed by copolymerization of the following two parts: a selectively oxidized polysaccharide with 2,3-dialdehyde, and a polyamine with an amino functional group; the polyamine with an amino functional group and the selectively oxidized polysaccharide with 2,3-dialdehyde can form a net structure by means of covalent crosslinking, resulting in a hydrogel with an amino functional group or a granular polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer, wherein the amino functional group in the hydrogel with an amino functional group or the granular polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer can be protonated so as to form a cationic copolymer of a three-dimensional network structure having a protonated site, and the nitrogen content of the cationic copolymer and the nitrogen content of the polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer are above 12.3 wt %, and both the cationic copolymer and the polysaccharide-polyamine copolymer are water-insoluble.

Abstract: Cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins from N,N-diallyl quaternary ammonium monomers and tetrallylpiperazinium cross-linking monomer or salts, solvates, tautomers or stereoisomers as adsorbent materials for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution. A process for producing the cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins by Butler cyclocopolymerization of the monomers with a free radical initiator. The cross linked cyclopolymeric resins are polyzwitterionic or polyzwitterionic and dianionic and feature repeating units with multiple chelating centers that heavy metal ions can bind to. In addition, a method for removing heavy metals from aqueous solution via contacting and treatment with the cross-linked cyclopolymeric resins.

Abstract: A method for separating natural gas liquids (NGLs) from a hydrocarbon gas mixture containing natural gas liquids and methane, comprising the steps of: i) providing a bed of adsorbent selective for NGLs over methane; ii) passing a hydrocarbon gas mixture containing methane and NGL through the bed of adsorbent to at least partially remove NGLs from the gas mixture to produce: (a) NGL-loaded adsorbent and (b) NGL-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iii) recovering the NGL-depleted hydrocarbon gas mixture; iv) regenerating the NGL-loaded adsorbent by at least partially removing NGLs from the adsorbent; and v) sequentially repeating steps (ii) and (iii) using regenerated adsorbent from step (iv).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a super-absorbent polymer having excellent properties, both centrifugal retention capacity (CRC) and absorption under pressure (AUP) having been improved by introducing a surface crosslinked layer crosslinked by surface-modified inorganic particles, and to a method for preparing the same. The super-absorbent polymer comprises: a base resin powder containing a crosslinked polymer of water-soluble ethylene-based unsaturated monomers having an at least partially neutralized acidic group; and a surface crosslinked layer formed on the base resin powder, wherein inorganic particles may be chemically bound to the crosslinked polymer contained in the surface crosslinked layer, via an oxygen-containing bond or a nitrogen-containing bond.
