Abstract:
The new copolymers based on maleic anhydride and .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated compounds contain, as bivalent structural units,A: 20 to 95 mole % of the structural element ##STR1## B: 0 to 40 mole % of the structural element ##STR2## C: and 0 to 40 mole % of the structural element ##STR3## the sum of the mole percents of (A), (B) and (C) being 100, and wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and denote hydrogen, alkyl, optionally substituted aryl or the ester group ##STR4## in which R.sup.4 represents alkyl with 1 to 20 carbon atoms,R.sup.3 denotes an alkyl, cycloalkyl or optionally substituted aryl radical with 1 to 20 carbon atoms andX and Y are identical or different and represent the group--O--R.sup.5in whichR.sup.5 denotes hydrogen, a cation or alkyl with 1 to 40 carbon atoms, orX and Y represent the group--NHR.sup.3in which R.sup.3 has the abovementioned meaning,at least one of the radicals X and Y representing the group --O--R.sup.5, and at least one of the radicals in the radicals X and Y containing at least 18 carbon atoms. The new copolymers can be prepared by reacting alternating copolymers of maleic anhydride and .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated compounds with monoalcohols and monoamines. Abstract:
A fuel composition for internal combustion engines, and more particularly, a fuel composition for internal combustion engines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel is described. The fuel composition comprises a major amount of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel and a minor, property improving amount of(A) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing composition, and(B) at least one hydrocarbon-soluble ashless dispersant. When a mixture of the metal-containing composition (A) and the ashless dispersant (B) are incorporated into gasolines containing less than about 0.5 gram of lead per liter of fuel, the treated fuel exhibits improved stability and water tolerance, and when the unleaded or low lead-containing fuels of the present invention are utilized in internal combustion engines, there is a significant reduction in valve seat recession. Methods of reducing valve seat recession in internal combustion engines utilizing lead free or low lead-containing fuels also are described.
Abstract:
This invention relates to compositions comprising (1) acrylic-type ester-acrylonitrile copolymers and (2) polymeric polyamines; and to such compositions in combination with organic liquids such as hydrocarbon fluids in which such compositions are effective as antistatic agents.
Abstract:
Lubricating oil dispersancy is improved by adding to the oil a product made by grafting an N-allyl amide (e.g. N,N-diallyl formamide) to an olefin polymer having a molecular weight of about 500-500,000 (e.g. ethylene/propylene/diene copolymer).
