Abstract:
A computer implemented method. The method includes obtaining, using a processor, spectral reflectance data from a coated surface having a target coating theron; and determining, using the processor, whether the data includes any outlier data points. The method also includes removing, using the processor, at least one of the outlier data points to produce final spectral reflectance data; and calculating, using the processor, a characteristic of the target coating based at least in part on the final spectral reflectance data.

An object is to ensure clear and easy quantification of the textures such as metallic texture and shiny texture of pearl pigment and to rationalize comparison inspection between an inspection object and a reference object. A coloring inspection apparatus 1 includes a camera 2 that is configured to have three spectral sensitivities (S1(λ), S2(λ), S3(λ)) linearly and equivalently converted to a CIE XYZ color matching function, an arithmetic processing unit 3 that is configured to obtain and compute coloring data by conversion of an image which has three spectral sensitivities and is obtained by the camera 2 into tristimulus values X, Y and Z in a CIE XYZ color system, and lighting units 6 that are configured to illuminate an automobile 5 as an example of measuring object. The coloring inspection apparatus 1 computes a color distribution consistency index that represents a ratio of overlap of two xyz chromaticity histogram distributions of an inspection object Q and a reference object R, so as to inspect color.
Abstract:
A system and method of characterizing a color variation of a surface includes a device having a light source and a plurality of sensors positioned at respective viewing angles. An algorithm is stored on and executable by a controller to cause the controller to direct a beam of light at the measurement location with the light source and measure the light leaving the measurement location with the sensors at a plurality of azimuth angles to obtain respective measured color values. The controller is configured to define a color vector function F(θ, φ) to represent the color variation of the surface. The controller is configured to determine the color vector function F(θ, φ) based at least partially on the respective measured color values. The system allows for a representation of color space of a surface at any azimuth and viewing angle.
Abstract:
A hand-held color measurement device is provided that is designed especially for measurements on curved surfaces includes a housing that accommodates a measurement array and further includes a housing base and a measurement opening arranged in the housing base, through which measurement opening a measurement spot on the surface of a measurement object is illuminated and the measurement light reflected by the measurement spot is picked up. The measurement array includes an illumination array for applying illumination light to the measurement spot in at least one illumination direction, and a pick-up array for detecting the measurement light in at least one observation direction. A multi-point bearing includes at least three pin-shaped support members and is arranged on the housing base. Two support members lie symmetrically on both sides of the measurement opening, wherein their connecting line extends parallel to and in the immediate vicinity of an illumination-observation plane which is defined by the illumination and observation directions. The third support member lies transversely at a distance from the other two support members.
