Abstract: Process for preparing barium-containing dispersions in essentially inert diluents by contacting a basically reacting barium compound with carbon dioxide in the presence of a stabilizing agent and promoter. A typical process comprises carbonating a mixture of barium hydroxide monohydrate, heptyl phenol, and the reaction product of polyisobutenyl-substitutedsuccinic anhydride and an alkylene polyamine. The bariumcontaining dispersions thus produced are useful as additives for fuels and lubricants.
