A deactivating rocker arm can include an outer arm extending between a first end and a second end. The outer arm can have a first outer side arm and a second outer side arm. The first and second outer side arms can define outer pivot axle apertures and axle slots. The inner arm can be disposed between the first and second outer side arms. The inner arm can have a first inner side arm and a second inner side arm. The first and second inner side arms can define bearing apertures. A bearing can be mounted in the bearing apertures of the inner arm and the axle slots of the outer arm. The axle slots can be configured to permit lost motion movement of the bearing. A first biasing member can be disposed on the second end of the outer arm and in biasing contact with the bearing.

A switchable roller finger follower including a combined lost motion spring and hydraulic lash adjuster clip is provided. The switchable roller finger follower includes at least one spring having two coiled spring portions. Each of the two coiled spring portions is wrapped around a respective spring holding pin formed on an inner elongated body. Each one of the at least two coiled spring portions includes a first leg and a second leg. The first legs each extend from a respective one of the two coiled spring portions to engage a spring pallet formed on an outer elongated body. The second legs each contact a bottom portion of the inner elongated body in proximity to a socket portion to act as a retainer for retaining a hydraulic lash adjuster to the inner elongated body.

The detent mechanisms include first and second detent cams and first and second pushing members, respectively. The first detent cam includes first and second grooves and a first top portion. The second detent cam includes third and fourth grooves and a second top portion. The first and second grooves have inclining portions extending from the first top portion toward bottoms thereof, inclining with respect to the camshaft directions, respectively. The third and fourth grooves have inclining portions extending from the second top portion toward bottoms thereof, inclining with respect to the camshaft directions, respectively.
Abstract:
A variable valve device for varying a lift amount of a valve includes a first valve and a second valve that are respectively disposed to open or close a port, a swing arm in which first and second valve pressing portions are formed at both sides to press the first valve and the second valve, one supporting portion that supports a part that is apart from the first and the second valve pressing portions on the swing arm, a lost body that is rotatably disposed on the swing arm through a lost pin, a camshaft on which a first cam and a second cam are formed to respectively press the lost body and the swing arm, and a latching pin that selectively fixes the swing arm with the lost body and is disposed to move in a direction that the first and the second valves are arranged.
Abstract:
In a variable valve actuation apparatus with a speed reducer between a timing sprocket and a camshaft for changing a phase of the camshaft relative to the sprocket, while reducing normal-rotation/reverse-rotation of an electric motor, the speed reducer includes an eccentric rotation member connected to an output shaft of the motor, an annular member connected to the sprocket, a plurality of rollers installed between an inner toothed portion of the annular member and an outer peripheral surface of the eccentric rotation member, and a cage connected to the camshaft for circumferentially partitioning the respective rollers, while permitting a radial displacement of each roller. Depending on a dimension of a clearance space between the eccentric rotation member and the annular member, a suitable one of a plurality of roller sets, each having a different outside diameter, is selected, and then the selected rollers are installed.
Abstract:
A starting device of a spark-ignition multi-cylinder engine is provided. The device includes a multi-cylinder engine body having cylinders, fuel injection valves, ignition plugs, an intake valve drive mechanism for opening and closing intake valves, a hydraulic variable valve phase mechanism for changing a close timing of each intake valve, an engine-driven hydraulic pressure supply source for supplying a hydraulic pressure, and a start controller for controlling the fuel injection valves, the ignition plugs, and the variable valve phase mechanism. When the supplied hydraulic pressure is below a predetermined pressure, the variable valve phase mechanism locks the close timing. When an engine temperature in an engine-start is high, the start controller retards a fuel injection timing of the cylinder on intake stroke at an engine stopped timing and retards an ignition timing thereof. The start controller does not retard the close timing of the intake valve until the engine-start completes.
Abstract:
A roller finger follower is provided having a housing and two separate outer arms mounted at one end to a pivot axle that extends through the housing. A roller is mounted in the housing The outer arms extend longitudinally along sides of the housing and include high lift cam contact surfaces. The outer arms having an outer arm body and separately formed longitudinal body, retained on the outer arm body, the longitudinal body including the cam contact surface. The longitudinal body is formed of a high durability material or coated with a suitable coating, the outer arm body formed of a lower grade, lower cost material.
Abstract:
A variable valve operating apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a helical wall part provided in a guide rail for changing valve opening characteristics of a valve and a projection part, and can secure a contact area between the two when the two are engaged, thus successfully reducing the contact pressure generated between the two. The placement of the projection part with respect to the helical wall part is determined such that the central axis line of the projection part and the central axis line of a camshaft perpendicularly intersect with each other in a state in which the projection part is protruded toward the guide rail by an actuator.
