Abstract: A handheld spectrometer can be configured with a visible aiming beam to allow the user to determine the measured region of the object. When the visible aiming beam comprises the spectrometer measurement beam, the spectrometer measurement beam comprises sufficient energy for the user to see the measurement beam illuminating the object. When the visible aiming beam comprises a separate beam, the visible aiming beam comprises sufficient energy for the user to see a portion of the aiming beam reflected from the object. The visible aiming beam and measurement beam can be arranged to at least partially overlap on the sample, such that the user has an indication of the area of the sample being measured.

Abstract: According to an aspect of the present inventive concept there is provided a light transmission system (100, 200) for delivering light to a Raman spectrometer (20), the system comprising: a homogenizer (110, 510) with an entrance surface (112, 512) having an entrance height and an entrance width, an exit surface (114, 514) having an exit height and an exit width, and wherein the exit height is of a larger size than the entrance height; and wherein the homogenizer (110, 510) is configured to receive, at the entrance surface (112, 512), light from a bundle (210) of optical fibers (220) and wherein each fiber (220) in the bundle (210) defines an entrance divergence angle of light; and wherein the homogenizer (110, 510) is configured to transmit light such that an exit divergence angle of light, in a plane parallel with a direction of the exit height, is smaller than the entrance divergence angle of light, in a plane parallel with a direction of the entrance height.

Abstract: The color strength of a colored batch containing effect pigments can be measured and corrected using one or more non-uniformly weighted factors to determine, at a plurality of combinations of illumination angles and measurement angles, and at one or more wavelengths, the color and intensity of light reflected or absorbed by a coating film made from the batch in comparison to a reference color strength. Based on such comparison, let-downs or batches may be passed, rejected, mixed or otherwise dispersed. The composition of such let-downs or batches may also or instead be adjusted by adding non-effect pigments, effect pigments, binder, carrier, binder, or non-effect or effect pigments dispersed in either or both of a carrier and binder, in order to correct the let-down or batch color strength to within a desired tolerance of the reference color strength.

Abstract: A measurement system includes an optical probe that has a reflective prism structure, an input system, and an output system. The reflective prism structure comprises at least two mirrored surfaces on opposing sides of an axis which extends in a direction towards a target. The input system is positioned to receive and direct source light towards one of the mirrored surfaces which is positioned to reflect the source light towards the target. The output system is positioned to receive and output converging light from reflected light that comprises measurement data related to the target. The reflected light is the source light reflected from the target via the other one of the mirrored surfaces and is without substantial overlap with the source light.

Abstract: In some examples, an apparatus may include a laser, a source fiber that delivers the laser radiation to an object, and a detector fiber that receives scattered laser radiation and illuminates a detector array with the scattered laser radiation to form speckles on the detector array. In some examples, the object may be directed illuminated by a laser. The detector array may include a plurality of detectors, and may be positioned to receive the scattered laser radiation from the end of the detector fiber. The distance between the detector array and the end of the detector fiber may be adjustable. A controller may be configured to receive detector data from the detector array, determine a time-dependent intensity autocorrelation function for each detector of a plurality of detectors, and determine an ensemble average autocorrelation function. The apparatus may provide information relating to dynamic processes within the object. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.
