    Abstract: Moulding materials (MM), containing (A) 5-97.9 wt% polycarbonate with a mol. wt. (Mw) of 10000-64000, (B) 1-93.9 wt% graft copolymer, (C) 1-93.9 wt% of a copolymer of (c1) a vinylaromatic compound of formula (I), in which R = H or 1-8C alkyl, R = 1-8C alkyl and n = 0-3, or a (1-8C alkyl) acrylate and/or (1-8C alkyl) (1-8C alkyl)acrylate and (c2) acrylonitrile and/or (1-8C alkyl)acrylonitrile, (D) 0.01-10 wt% polyhydroxy- ether derived from an aliphatic or aromatic diol and epihalohydrin, (E) 0-25 wt% halogen-free phosphorus compound and (F) 0-50 wt% additives.     Abstract: A continuous multi-step process for the preparation of polyamides by reacting an w-aminoalkyl nitrile with water at high temperature and pressure, comprises (1) heating an w-aminoalkyl nitrile in an excess amount of water at 250-350 deg C and 4-30 MPa, the temperature and pressure being chosen to give a single-phase liquid reaction mixture, in which at least 95 mol.% nitrile groups are converted to form a first reaction product (I); (2) heating (I) at 220-300 deg C and 1-7 MPa, so that the pressure is at least 0.5 MPa less than that in step (1), whilst separating the gas and liquid phases to form a second reaction product (II); (3) heating (II) at 220-300 deg C and 10-300 kPa in a first sub-step (3a), then in a second sub-step (3b) the gas phase is separated from the liquid phase and then in a third sub-step (c) the relative viscosity (measured at 25 deg C and a concentration of 1 g polymer per 100 ml sulphuric acid (96 wt.%)) of the polyamide is altered to a value of 1.6-3.5 by selecting the appropriate temperature and dwell time, whilst in the final sub-step (3d) the third reaction product (III) is isolated by standard techniques and optionally processed.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a functionalized polymer of the formula A-Z-X in which A is a block made up of vinyl aromatic monomers with 8 to 20, preferably 8 to 12, carbon atoms, Z is a basic unit corresponding to a compound with sterically hindering groups and X is a functionalized basic unit, the degree of functionalization of the polymer being at least 65 %, preferably greater than 85 %, particularly preferably greater than 90 %. The invention also concerns a method of producing such a polymer, thermoplastic moulding compounds it, methods of preparing such moulding compounds, the use of the moulding compounds to produce mouldings, and mouldings including the moulding compounds.
