    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a propylene polymer which has a high rigidity/strength ratio and low chlorine content, and can be produced by a process with high productivity. SOLUTION: A propylene polymer containing a matrix comprising a propylene homopolymer and a copolymer of propylene with other alkene is first dissolved in boiling xylene, the solution is cooled at a cooling rate of 10 deg.C per hr to 25 deg.C, the temperature is then raised to separate the propylene polymer into fractions of various solubilities according to the stereoregularities of polymer chains and the comonomer distributions, wherein the matrix remaining undissolved when the cooled propylene polymer solution is heated to 80 deg.C satisfies one or more of the following conditions: i) the matrix remains undissolved in an amount above 20 wt.% when further heated to 112 deg.C; ii) it remains undissolved in an amount above 8 wt.% when further heated to 117 deg.C; and iii) it remains undissolved in an amount above 1 wt.% when further heated to 122 deg.C.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Ziegler/Natta catalyst composition capable of providing a high productivity and stereospecificity, producible in a short time and capable of reducing the amount a titanium- or a chlorine-containing starting material. SOLUTION: This Ziegler/Natta catalyst composition comprises (a) a titanium- containing solid component, (b) an aluminum compound and, as necessary, (c) an electron donative compound. The component (a) is produced by mixing an inorganic compound as a carrier with a solution of a magnesium compound without containing chlorine in an inert solvent, then reacting the resultant mixture with a 1-8C alkanol in an excessive amount of >=1.3 times based on the magnesium compound at -20 to +80 deg.C under stirring, subsequently mixing the prepared product with a tri- or a tetravalent titanium compound and a carboxylic acid ester as an electron donor without carrying out the purification and extraction thereof, then separating a solid material by filtration, extracting the resultant solid with a solution containing >=5wt.% titanium tetrachloride in an inert solvent and further washing the solid material with a liquid alkane.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition comprising a specific titanium- containing solid component, a cocatalyst and an electron-donating compound and enabling the production of a polymer having a high bulk density and reduced in xylene and heptane-soluble contents. SOLUTION: This Ziegler/Natta type catalyst composition comprises (A) a Ti-containing solid component comprising a Ti compound, a Mg compound, a halogen, an inorganic oxide and a carboxylate ester as an electron-donating compound, (B) an aluminum compound as a cocatalyst, and selectively (C) one or more other electron-donating compounds. The inorganic oxide in the component A has a pH of 1-6, an average particle diameter of 5-200μm, an average primary particle diameter of 1-20μm, pore spaces and grooves of 0.1-20μm and the whole particle volume marcroshare of 5-30%. The catalyst can give polymers good in mechanical characteristics, and the polymers are suitable for producing shaped products such as films and fibers.

    Abstract: Ziegler-Natta catalyst system, contains (a) a titanium-containing solid component derived from a titanium compound, a magnesium compound, a halogenating agent and an electron donor, (b) an aluminium compound and (c) an organosilicon compound of formula R R Si(OR )2 (I) as additional electron donor, in which R = 1-10C alkyl or 3-8C cycloalkyl; R = 2,4,4,6,6-pentamethylheptyl; R = 1-8C alkyl. Also claimed is (i) a process for the production of polymers from 2-10C alk-1-enes by polymerisation for 1-10 hours at 20-150 degrees C and 1-100 bar in presence of this catalyst system; (ii) polymers of 2-10C alk-1-enes obtained by this process; and (iii) film, fibres and mouldings obtained from these polymers.
