    Abstract: The use of particulate, hydrophobic polymers with a particle size of 10 nm to 100 microns, cationically modified by surface-coating with multivalent metal ions and/or cationic surfactants, as additives in rinsing, care, washing and cleaning materials. Independent claims are also included for: (i) a treatment for laundry, textile surfaces, leather, wood and hard surfaces, containing: (a) 0.05-40 wt.% of modified polymer as above (I); (b) 0.01-20 wt.% of water-soluble salts of calcium, magnesium, aluminum and/or zinc and/or 0.01-30 wt.% of cationic surfactant; (c) 0-80 wt.% of additive(s) such as acids, bases, inorganic builders, organic co-builders, other surfactants, polymeric color-transfer inhibitors, polymeric greying inhibitors, soil release polymers, enzymes, complex-formers, corrosion inhibitors, wax, silicone oils, light stabilizers, dyes, solvents, hydrotropic additives, thickeners and/or alkanolamines; and (d) water to make up 100 wt.%; (ii) laundry after-treatment and care material containing: (a) 0.1-30 wt.% of (I) (containing ethylenically-unsaturated monomer unit(s)), dispersed in water; (b) 0.05-20 wt.% of acid; (c) 0.1-30 wt.% of water-soluble salt(s) of magnesium, calcium, zinc or aluminum and/or a cationic surfactant; (d) 0-10 wt.% of additives such as perfume, silicone oil, light stabilizers, dyes, complex-formers, greying inhibitors, soil-release polyesters, color-transfer inhibitors, non-aqueous solvents, hydrotropic additives, thickeners and/or alkanolamines; and (e) water to make up 100 wt.% of; (iii) a laundry after-treatment and care material containing: (a) 0.5-25 wt.% of hydrophobic polymer particles (size as above) containing 5-45 wt.% of unsaturated monomer units with carboxylic acid groups, dispersed in water with an anionic emulsifier and/or anionic protective colloid; (b) 0.05-10 wt.% of acid; (c) 0.1-30 wt.% of metal salt and/or surfactant as above; (d) 0-10 wt.% of additives (as in ii); and (e) water (to 100 wt.%); (iv) a liquid cleaning and care formulation containing: (a) 0.05-30 wt.% of (I); (b) 0.01-40 wt.% of non-ionic or anionic surfactant; (c) 0.01-30 wt.% of metal salt and/or surfactant as above; (d) 0-10 wt.% of complex-former(s); (e) 0-20 wt.% of pH regulator, thickener, solvent, hydrotropic agent, polycarboxylic acid, silicone, brightener, perfume and/or dye; and (f) 0-90 wt.% of water; (v) a liquid acid cleaning formulation containing: (a) 0.1-30 wt.% of (I) (as in ii above); (b) 0.05-20 wt.% of acid; and (c) other components as in (iv); (vi) a liquid acid cleaning formulation containing: (a) 0.5-25 wt.% of (I) (as in (iii) above), dispersed as described; (b) 0.1-40 wt.% of non-ionic or anionic surfactant; (c) 0.1-30 wt.% of metal salt and/or surfactant as above; (d) 0.1-20 wt.% of acid, and other components as in (iv); (vii) a solid detergent formulation containing: (a) 0.05-20 wt.% of (I); (b) 0.1-40 wt.% of non-ionic, cationic and/or anionic surfactant(s); (c) 0-50 wt.% of inorganic builder; (d) 0-10 wt.% of organic co-builder; and (e) 0-60 wt.% of other ingredients such as regulators, enzymes, perfumes, complex-formers, corrosion inhibitors, bleaching agents, activators and/or catalysts, color-transfer inhibitors, greying inhibitors, soil-release polyesters, dyes, solubilizers and/or break-up agents; (viii) a liquid detergent formulation containing: (a) 0.05-20 wt.% of (I); (b) 0.1-40 wt.% of surfactant(s) as in (vii); (c) 0-20 wt.% of inorganic builder; (d) 0-10 wt.% of organic co-builder; (e) 0-10 wt.% of additives such as soda, enzymes, perfume, complex formers, corrosion inhibitors, bleaching agents, activators and/or catalysts, color-transfer inhibitors, greying inhibitors, soil-release polyesters, dyes, non-aqueous solvents, hydrotropic agents, thickeners and/or alkanolamines; and (f) 0-90 wt.% of water.

    Abstract: The use of particulate, hydrophobic polymers with a particle size of 10 nm to 100 micro m, cationically modified by coating with cationic polymers, as additives in washing or care materials for textiles and as additives in detergents.
