Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish production of an oily material due to catalytic decomposition of a synthetic polymer (plastic). SOLUTION: A mineral consisting essentially of SiO2 -Al2 O3 and having =250m /g specific surface area, (70/30) to (45/55) ratio (wt/wt) of SiO2 /Al2 O3 and containing 3-15wt.% subsidiary component is used as a catalyst. The preferred example of the mineral is Secard OW (R). The catalyst in an amount of 10wt.% is added to 10g polyethylene resin and catalytic decomposition of the polyethylene resin is carried out. In the reaction, a time until distilled amount attains 5ml is 4min and a time until distilled amount attains 9ml is 7min and distilled liquid amount is 74.4wt.% and amount of gas generated is 20.6wt.% and residual amount is 5.0wt.%.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogenation product of an olefin in the presence of a catalyst high in hydrogenation activity in a high yield by reacting the olefin with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst comprising a metallocene compound and an organic aluminum compound. SOLUTION: An olefin (preferably a cycloalkadiene) is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of (A) a metallocene compound and (B) an organic aluminum oxy compound (preferably methylaluminoxane) preferably at 20-100 deg.C for 1-30hr. The component A is preferably a zirconocene of the formula: MLx (M is zirconium; L groups are ligands, wherein at least one of the L groups is a ligand having a cyclopentadienyl skeleton, and the others are each a 1-12C hydrocarbon, an alkoxy, etc.; x is the valency of M). The component A and the component B are used in amounts of 0.001-0.1 mole and 0.01-1 mole, respectively, per mole of the olefin. The components A and B are used in an Al/M atomic ratio of 100-500.

CONSTITUTION:An olefin (co)polymerization catalyst is obtained by pretreating, by prepolymerization of an olefin, a solid catalyst component prepared by impregnating a fine particulate support with a transition metal compound (A) such as represented by the formula [wherein M is IVa, Va or VIa transition metal; R is a 2-6C hydrocarbon group; R is a 6-16C aryl group; X and X are each H, halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, a 1-20C halohydrocarbon group, an oxygenous group or a sulfur group; Y is a 1-20C bivalent hydrocarbon group; a 1-20C halohydrocarbon group; a bivalent siliciferous group, a germanous group, -O-, -CO-, -S-, -SO-, -NR -,-P(R ), AIR (wherein R is H, halogen or the like)], an organoaluminumoxy compound and at least one compound selected from compounds capable of forming an ionic pair by reaction with component A and an organoaluminumoxy compound.

CONSTITUTION:This transition metallic compound is expressed by the formula (M is a group IVa, Va or VIa transition metal of the Periodic Table; R is H, a halogen, a 1-20C halogenated hydrocarbon, a silicon-containing group, etc.; R is a 1-20C hydrocarbon which may be substituted with a halogen, etc.; Hal is fluorine or chlorine; X and X are each H, a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon, etc.; Y is a 1-20C bivalent hydrocarbon, SO, etc.). Furthermore, the catalyst for polymerizing an olefin comprises the transition metallic compound and is prepared by supporting the transition metallic compound, an organoaluminumoxy compound and a compound, reactive with the metallic compound and forming an ion paxr on a particulate carrier. The method for polymerizing the olefin comprises a reaction in the presence of the catalyst.
