Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title resin being free of highly toxic volatile monomer and containing nonpungent compounds, by reacting 1,8-diisocyanato-4- isocyanatomethyloctane with acryl polyol at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:1,8-Diisocyanato-4-isocyanatomethyloctane is reacted with acryl polyol at an NCO to OH molar ratio of 0.5-2.0. In this way, the purpose polyurethane resin having a carbamide group concentration of 5X10 -50X10 mol per g of the reaction product and a crosslinking parameter of 150-1500 is obtained. Said trifunctional 1, 8-diisocyanato-4-isocyanatomethyloctane used is a new compound having a chemical structure of the formula. This compound has a low vapor pressure near room temperature, is not irritating to the human body and can be handled safely.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optically uniform plastic lens having an excellent appearance, by covering the outer circumference of a space held with a gasket and two glass molds with a heat insulating material at the time when a liquid curable compound is poured into the space. CONSTITUTION:Only an outer circumferential zone may be insulated on the upper face of the outer circumferential part formed with a gasket 2 and two glass molds 1, but the bottom face and side face parts are preferably wholely covered for heat insulation. By covering and heat-insulating it, a whole lens can be uniformly heated to obtain a lenz free of striae. As the heat insulating material, an asbestos foam or 4a polypropylene foam may be preferably used. The liquid curable compound to be poured has a refractive index of 1.50 or more and is an organic compound being formable into a crosslinked structure and containing 5 wt.% or more of a polyfunctional organic vinyl monomer containing an aromatic ring and being radically-polymerizable.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To form a plastic lens having high refractive index and >=35 Abbe's number and >=1.60 refractive index by constituting the lens of specified recurrent structural units as principal component. CONSTITUTION:A plastic lens is constituted of recurrent structural units expressed by the formula I as principal component. In the formula I, -CHmHnXp is a halogen-contg. aliphatic and/or halogen-contg. alicyclic group; R is H or methyl; X is a halogen atom except F; l is 1-3; m is 1-12; n+p is an integer 1-25. Since the plastic lens has >=1.60 refractive index, the thickness of the external periphery of the lens can be made thin. Further, since the lens has >=35 Abbe's number, the chromatic aberration of the lens is made smaller than the chromatic aberration of conventional lenses having high refractive index.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lens having a high refractive index, superior formability and heat resistance by using a resin having specified three kinds of structural units as essential components and having a three-dimensional structure. CONSTITUTION:A composition contg. repeating units represented by formula I (where X is halogen other then F and m=1-5), formula II (where R is H or methyl, X is halogen other than F, Y is a unit represented by formula III, 3=3-5 and n=0-2) and formula IV [where R is H or methyl and A is a group represented by formula V (where R is H or methyl and n=1-10)] as essential components is copolymerized, and the resulting resin having a three- dimensional cross-linked structure is used to obtain a three-dimensional cross- linked structure is used to obtain a plastic lens. The preferred amount of the repeating units represented by the formulae I, II, IV are 20-85pts.wt., 5-70pts. wt. and 20-60pts.wt., respectively. The plastic lens has >=1.60 refractive index and >=35 Abbe's number and also has superior casting work efficiency, heat and shock resistances. The thickness of the peripheral part of the lens can be reduced and the lens has small chromatic aberration and superior post- workability.

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A deuterated styrene monomer substituted with fluorine atoms of the formula (m, n are integers satisfying following equations: m=1-5; n=0-4, m+n=5). USE:It is used as a monomer for photoconductive materials. Since the polymers therefrom has reduced absorption loss in the near infrared range, it is used as an optical material for the optical range. Further, the polymers improve low heat resistance, chemical resistance to solvents and sensitivity to trace amounts of water which are characteristic in polystyrene. PREPARATION:For example, pentafluorobenzene is used as a starting substance to effect halogenaton with a halogen other than fluorine in a usual manner and a Grignard reagent is prepared from the product. The Grignard reagent is allowed to react with deuterated acetaldehyde and the product is dehydrated using a dehydrating agent to give the objective compound of the formula.
