Abstract: PURPOSE:To ristrict deterioration of color purity caused by pertial thermal disformation of a shadow mask by making a radius of curvature in Y-axis direction smaller on the periphery than that in the center of a faceplate on the crossing line of the rectangle-shaped effective curved surface of a panel with Y axis. CONSTITUTION:A color picture tube is provided with a panel 24 having a rectangle-shaped effective curved surface, a fluorescent screen 30 formed on the inner surface of this panel 24 and a curved surface-shaped shadow mask 36 having an effective curved surface in which many holes are formed through which electron beams pass. A radius of curvature in Y-axis direction on a crossing line of this panel effective curved surface with Y-axis (a minor axis) is made smaller on the periphery than that in the center of a faceplate. Accordingly, it is possible to ristrict deterioration due to disformation while restricting thermal disformation of the shadow mask 36 and also to give a reflected image with no sense of incompatibility.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively control the thermal deformation of a shadow mask regardless of the flatness of a faceplate by forming a curved surface shadow mask into a specific shape. CONSTITUTION:The Z-axis is set in the tube axis direction of a color cathode- ray tube, the long X-axis is set in the horizontal direction of a shadow mask, and the short Y axis is set vertically to it. The Z-axis direction distance between a top point M1 on the X-Z axis plane of the intersecting line Y2 between the plane parallel to the Y-Z axis and the effective curved surface of the shadow mask and a point N1 or N'1 at the effective end section of the longitudinal side, i.e., the height on the cross section parallel to the short Y-axis of the shadow mask, is increased as it approaches the effective end section P of the X-axis from the Y-axis (X=0) gradually at first and becomes maximum at the middle point M1 then is decreased gradually. It is slightly larger at the end section P than on the Y-axis. Accordingly, the mislanding of the shadow mask due to the thermal deformation can be effectively corrected.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a meandering and constriction of the stripes formed in the inner surface of a panel, by specifying the form of the outer and inner surfaces of a negative meniscus lens, where the light of a long light source is radiated and exposed to the inner surface of the panel through a transmission hole of a shadow mask. CONSTITUTION:The light of a long light source 3 is radiated to the inner surface of a panel through a meniscus lens 22, a landing correction lens, and a light distribution correcting filter, and through a slot form transmission hole of a shadow mask, to form a stripe form phosphor layer. In this case, where the center axis of the lens 22 is Z, the longitudinal axis of the long light source 3 is Y, and the lateral axis of the long light source is X, the curvature of the crossing line of the center surface of the lens 22, and, the YZ plane and YZ parallel plane is made smaller around the top 23 and larger at the periphery. At the same time, the curvature of the inner surface of the lens 22 and those planes is also made smaller at the periphery than at the top 23. Therefore, the meandering or constriction of the stripes inside the panel can be corrected very efficiently.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of color purity due to welding by limiting the welding point with the shadowmask frame within two for one short side and two diagonal sections. CONSTITUTION:The shadowmask bodies 7-9 is made of low thermal expansion metal while the frame is made of common iron material where the shadowmask is welded to the inside of frame at three points on the long side while two points on the short side. Upon function of color picture tube, the frame will thermally expand to apply tensile force in the arrow direction through the welded points thus to vary the landing position of electron beam onto the fluorescent material, but since the welding points on short side and diagonal section is limited, outward tensile force of the shadowmask near the horizontal axis is weakened. Consequently, the difference of the variation of landing position of electron beam in horizontal direction near the horizontal axis and the diagonal axis is reduced resulting in cancellation of the deterioration of the color purality.

SOLUTION: The shadow mask 7 comprises a mask body 14 and an auxiliary body 20 which overlie each other. The mask body has a principal mask plane 40 having an effective part opposed to approximately the overall surface of a phosphor screen and having electron-beam holes formed therein, and a skirt part 17 extending from a peripheral edge of the principal mask plane. The auxiliary mask is secured in place as it overlies an area near the minor axis Y of the effective part of the mask body, and is formed in a strip with the minor axis serving as its longitudinal direction. The auxiliary mask has a skirt part positioned to overlie the skirt part of the mask body. In the area where the mask body and the auxiliary body overlie, either the skirt of the mask body or the skirt part of the auxiliary mask is secured to the mask frame.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shadow mask increased in strength without thickening it and also provide a color cathode-ray tube improved in picture quality. However, a joint portion between the large hole and the small hole for passing through an electron beam formed in the periphery of the effective area is positioned near one side surface of the effective area, in addition the large hole is offset against the small hole in the direction of the major axis.

SOLUTION: In a shadow mask 12 disposed to face a phosphor screen 6 formed on an inner surface of a panel, plural aperture rows are provided, and each aperture row is composed of plural apertures 34 disposed in a line at a specified interval from each other. On both sides of each aperture row on an electron gun side surface of the shadow mask, stripes of dielectric layers 50 are respectively formed to be extended roughly in parallel to the aperture row to be electrified by radiation of an electron beam 8 to focus the electron beam toward the apertures. This shadow mask is manufactured by forming strips of insulating substance layers on an electron gun side surface of base material of a mask, forming the base material of the mask into a specified form, and baking the insulating substance layer on the shadow mask after formation.

Spaces between passing holes along the major axis X direction of the mask body increase from the center of the mask body toward the ends of the major axis, and the rate of change of spaces between passing holes has a maximal value between the center of the mask body and each end of the major axis.
