    Abstract: Hair treatment agents which contain copolymers as film formers which are obtainable by copolymerising: a) 30 to 80 wt % of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester which, as a homopolymer, has a glass transition temperature of over 20 DEG C, or of mixtures of acrylic and methacrylic esters which, on copolymerisation, give copolymers with a glass transition temperature of over 20 DEG C; b) 5 to 25 wt % of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or their mixtures, and c) 10 to 45 wt % of N-vinyl pyrrolidone, N-vinyl caprolactam or their mixtures, in the presence of polymerisation initiators forming radicals according to the precipitation polymerisation process, and the use of the copolymers thus obtainable as film formers in hair treatment agents.

    Abstract: Preparation of copolymers which are clear in water from A) 45 to 90% by weight of N-vinylpyrrolidone, B) 10 to 55% by weight of a vinyl ester and C) 0 to 10% by weight of further copolymerisable monomers by free radical polymerisation in an organic solvent in the presence of a free radical initiator and separation of the organic solvent and other volatile components by distillation, by carrying out the polymerisation until the N-vinylpyrrolidone content of the reaction mixture corresponds to 5 to 1% by weight of the amount of N-vinylpyrrolidone used, substantially separating off the organic solvent and other volatile components by distillation, adding water to the mixture, leaving the aqueous solution for 1 to 10 hours at 50 to 100 DEG C with further addition of free radical initiators and then virtually completely removing volatile organic components by steam distillation.

    Abstract: The use of copolymers obtainable by the radically initiated polymerisation of A) 50 to 99.9 wt % of an olefinically unsaturated C3 to C5 monocarboxylic acid, an olefinically unsaturated C4 to C8 bicarboxylic acid or its anhydride, or a mixture of such carboxylic acids or carboxylic acid anhydrides with B) 0.1 to 50 wt % of one or more long-chained compounds with isolated multiple C-C bonds from the group (1) mono or polyunsaturated C8 to C30 monocarboxylic acids which may have additional hydroxyl groups and their alkaline metal and earth alkaline metal salts, alkyl esters, amides, sorbitane esters, glycerine esters and polyglycerine esters, (2) mono or polyunsaturated aliphatic C8 to C30 amines, (3) mono or polyunsaturated C8 to C30 alcohols and esters thereof with saturated C1 to C4 monocarboxylic acids, (4) to (C8 to C30 alkyl) vinyl ether which may incorporate up to 25 alkylene oxide units, and (5) final and medium-position C13 to C30 alkenes; C) 0 to 49.9 wt % of other copolymerisable monomers, and D) 0 to 10 wt % of one or more compounds with at least two olefinically unsaturated groups in the molecule as cross-linking agents, as thickening or dispersing agents, especially in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations.
