    Abstract: A method and a system for allocating resources in a communication system are provided to minimize a time for resource allocation by allocating an available frequency band and a fractional frequency band to sense a spectrum to a secondary system so as to shorten the time required for spectrum sensing. A secondary BS(Base Station), or the BS of a secondary system in a CR(Cognitive Radio) communication system, receives query information, which contains information for a frequency band available for an MS(Mobile Station) of the secondary system, from the MS(301). Afterwards, the BS receives the query information of each query frequency band, allocated to each of the MSs of the secondary system, from each of the MSs(305).
