Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated continuous and random access analytical system, having an apparatus and methodology capable of simultaneously performing a plurality of assays of liquid samples using different assay methodologies, and providing continuous and random access while performing a plurality of different assays on the same or different samples during the same time period, and a method of operating an automated continuous and random access analytical system capable of simultaneously effecting the plurality of assays on a plurality of liquid samples. SOLUTION: The method comprises scheduling various assays of the plurality of liquid samples, creating a unit dose disposable and separately transferring a first liquid sample and reagents to a reaction vessel without initiation of an assay reaction sequence, and physically transferring the unit dose disposable to a processing workstation, whereby a mixture of the unit dose disposable reagents and the sample is achieved during incubation. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated continuous and random access analytical system having an apparatus and a method capable of simultaneously performing multiple assays of liquid samples using different assay methodologies, and providing continuous and random access while performing a plurality of different assays on the same or different samples during the same time period, and to provide a method of operating an automated continuous and random access analytical system capable of simultaneously performing multiple assays of a plurality of liquid samples. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both an automatic and continuous-random access analysis system and a method for operating the same which comprise a device and a method, capable of simultaneously executing a plurality of tests on liquid samples through the use of different test methods, provides random access, and for simultaneously executing the plurality of different tests on the same or different samples during the same period. SOLUTION: In this method, the various tests on the plurality of liquid samples are scheduled, and a disposable unit amount is created; without starting a test reaction sequence, a first liquid sample 26 and a reagent 30 are individually transferred to a reaction vessel 34; then the disposable unit amount 34 is physically transferred to a treatment work station 46. As a result of this, a mixture 34 of the unit amount reagent and the sample is obtained during culturing.

SOLUTION: By one method, the effective length of movement of a container 15 holding a sample at a process lane 28 which selectively and automatically performs process steps on a sample in the container 15 is determined. The process lane 28 is produced so as to correspond to at least one of predetermined throughput and predetermined physical size. Elements are arranged along the process lane 28 so that the container 15 moves the effective length during the execution of the determination of items of concern.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a structure for executing a process of determining concerned items in a sample by connecting a prime mover to a process path to move a container, holding the sample, along the process path. SOLUTION: A prime mover 24 is connected to a process path 10 to move a container, holding a sample, along the process path 10, that is, a plurality of teeth are provided at the outer diameter surface of a disc 16 and meshed with a gear driven by the prime mover 24 fitted to a base 14 by a bracket 26. The prime mover 24 and the whole process path 10 are driven being connected to a control device such as a computer for executing appropriate routine or the like. The disc 16 moves corresponding to the motion of the gear driven by the prime mover 24. The base 14 guides the container along the process path 10 in correspondence with the motion of the disc 16. When the disc 16 moves, the container moves from one processing station to another processing station, and concerned items in the sample are determined.

SOLUTION: A method provides a process route provided with a process lane 28 in which a process-step execution lane 62 used to execute a process step and a process-step prevention lane 64 used to prevent the process step are contained. A container which holds a sample is moved along the process route. The sample is introduced into the container. A reagent is introduced into the container. The sample and the reagent are mixed inside the container. The container is arranged selectively in one selected out of the process-step execution lane 62 and the process-step prevention lane 64. An interested item in the sample is decided on the basis of the reaction of the sample with the reagent.
