    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer film useful as a separating membrane with sericin discarded until now by spreading an aq. sericin soln. contg. specified cross- linking agents on a glass plate and forming a crosslinked thin film. CONSTITUTION:An aq. hydrochloric acid soln., an aq. soln. of a crosslinking agent (A) such as formaldehyde and an aq. soln. of thermallyreactive water-soluble urethane resin as a cross-linking agent (B) are added to an ag. sericin soln. and they are mixed to obtain an aq. sericin soln. for spreading. This sericin soln. is spread on a smooth plate such as a glass plate at room temp. and allowed to stand at room temp. to carry out cross-linking with the cross-linking agent A. The resulting film is treated with hot air at about 100-150 deg.C to carry out cross-linking with the cross-linking agent B. A cross-linked thin film of sericin is formed and utilized as a separating membrane for an aq. soln. of water-soluble org. matter (water-alcohol). At this time, the film is well washed with water, held on a porous support and used.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a temperature sensitive permeable membrane for separating substance which is capable of controlling permeation of substance by temp. by subjecting N-isopropylacrylamide to graft polymerization on the single surface of a cellulose membrane and forming the temperature sensitive film. CONSTITUTION:The middle of a reactor 1 is partitioned with a cellulose membrane and both an N-isopropylacrylamide aq. soln. and ammonium ceric nitrate (polymerization initiator) are introduced into a cell 2 and only the N- isopropylacrylamide aq. soln. is introduced into a cell 3 and the systems are held at constant temp. by circulating hot water 10, 11 and while sufficiently agitating the insides of the cells, N-isopropylacrylamide is subjected to graft polymerization on the cellulose membrane from the cell 2 side under the nitrogen atmosphere. After the reaction has been finished, the produced graft cellulose membrane is sufficiently washed with water. By such a way, the permeable membrane for separating substance which is capable of controlling permeation characteristics by temp. and consists of a temperature sensitive film material is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermally reversible hydrophilic/hydrophobic polymeric compound which has a prescribed mol.wt. and is suitable as a light shielding substance for a green house, by subjecting N-1-methyl-2-methoxyethyl(meth) acrylamide to radical polymerization. CONSTITUTION:The aimed thermally reversible hydrophilic/hydrophobic polymeric compound which comprises repeating units of formula II and has a mol.wt. corresponding to a limited viscosity number of 0.01-6 in a tetrahydrofuran solution at 27 deg.C is produced by subjecting a vinyl compound of formula I (wherein R is H or methyl) to radical polymerization. Although this compound is hydrophilic at ordinary temperatures, it becomes insoluble in water reversibly by heating. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting, for example, (meth)acryloyl chloride with 2-amino-1-methoxypropane and triethylamine in a solvent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-MW thermoreversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer excellent in strength and capable of being insolubilized in water when warmed, by radical-polymerizing N-isopropylacrylamide in a benzene solvent at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:N-Isopropylacrylamide is dissolved in a benzene solvent to form a solution of a concentration of 1-80wt% and radical-polymerized at 5-40 deg.C, preferably, 20-30 deg.C in the presence of, optionally, 0.001-5wt%, based on the vinyl compound, polymerization initiator (e.g., azobisisobutyronitrile) to give the title polymer which is poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) having an intrinsic viscosity >=1.00 (in tetrahydrofuran at 27 deg.C). This polymer is a thermoreversibly hydrophilic and hydrophobic polymer which is insolubilized in water when warmed and is useful for light-screening bodies, temperature sensors, adsorbents, toys, interiors, separative membranes, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a crosslinked molding having thermoplasticity, being insoluble in water and being capable of retaining its shape, by radical- polymerizing a specified acrylamide derivative and an N-methylolacrylamide and molding and crosslinking the polymer. CONSTITUTION:1mol of a compound of the formula is mixed with 1mol or below of an N-methylolacrylamide, and the mixture is radical-polymerized in a state of solution. The obtained copolymer is molded and then crosslinked by heating. In the formula, R1 is H or methyl and R2 is n-propyl or isopropyl. To copolymerize a compound of the formula with N-methylolacrylamide, it is necessary to perform the copolymerization in a solvent in which the monomers can be dissolved homogeneously. Examples of such solvents include water, alcohols and N,N-diethylacetamide. In order to give a NW suitable for processing into a molding to this copolymer, it is preferable to produce it so that it has an intrinsic viscosity [eta], as measured in, for example, a methanol solution at 30 deg.C, of about 0.01-6.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled thermoreversible crosslinkable polymer compound, by radical-copolymerizing N-acryl-piperidine with N-methylolacrylamide in a solution state. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of 1mol of N-acrylpiperidine of formula I and 2mol or below N-methylacrylamide of formula II is dissolved in a solvent (e.g., methanol) so that the concentration of the formed solution may be 1-100%. This solution is copolymerized at 100-200 deg.C for 1-500min to obtain a crosslinkable thermoreversible polymer compound comprising units of formula III and 0.1-66mol% units of formula IV and having, preferably, an intrinsic viscosity [eta]as measured in a chloroform solution or a methanol solution at 30 deg.C of 0.01-6.0. This polymer compound has a property of being easily crosslinked when its molding is heated, so that it can be used as a mechanochemical material, a light-screening material or an adsorbent or for toys, separation membranes, etc.

Alternately, the temp. of a polymer composite surface containing high-temp. hydrophobic heat-reversible polymer compound is kept higher than phase transition temp. of the heat-reversible polymer compound and a pattern is drawn by means of a coloring material composite. The high-temp. hydrophobic heat-reversible polymer compound is preferably one mainly containing polyvinyl methylether with more than 50 deg.C phase transition temp. and polyacrylamide derivative.

CONSTITUTION:The objective compound composed of the recurring unit of formula II and having a mol.wt. corresponding to an intrinsic viscosity [eta]of 0.01-6.0 measured as THF solution at 27 deg.C is produced by radical polymerization of an N-methoxyethoxypropyl (meth)acrylamide of formula I (R is H or methyl). The compound of formula I used as a starting raw material is a novel substance producible e.g. by reacting (meth)acryloyl chloride with methoxyethoxypropylamine and triethylamine in a solvent at 0-10 deg.C.
