Butene-1 (co)polymers characterized by the following properties: content of butene-1 units in the form of isotactic pentads (mmmm) from 25 to 55%; intrinsic viscosity [η] measured in tetraline at 135°C from 1 to 3dL/g; content of xylene insoluble fraction at 0°C from 3 to 60%; and a ratio ES 2 /ES 1 ≥1, where ES 1 is the boiling diethyl ether soluble fraction determined on the polymer as such and ES 2 is the boiling diethyl ether soluble fraction determined after milling the polymer. The butene-1 (co)polymers show a good balance between processability and elastomeric behavior.

A gas-phase process for the homo or copolymerization of propylene with other olefins, carried out in the presence of a catalyst system comprising: (a) a solid catalyst component comprising Mg, Ti, halogen, an electron donor selected from 1.3-diethers and an olefin polymer in a specific amount; (b) an aluminum alkyl compound and (c) an external electron donor compound selected from specific classes; said components (a) and (c) being employed in amounts such that the Al/(ED) molar ratio ranges from 2 to 200. The process is capable to give polypropylene product having good morphological properties, high stereoregularity, and capable to show self- extinguishing properties such that the negative effects caused by the fine catalyst particle polymerization can be selectively solved or mitigated.

The said copolymers comprise from 10 to 50%wt of ethylene and are characterized by: product of the comonomer reactivity ratio r1•r2 ≤1.5; absence of 2,1 propylene insertions and tensile strength at break higher than 4 Mpa.
