Abstract: Prepn. of a low-melting foam suppressor in fine particulate form comprises spraying the foam suppressor melt onto fine particles of inert, inorganic support material 0.2-4 pts. wt. of foam suppressor melt and one pt. wt. of carrier material having a mean particle dia. less than 100 micron are used; the carrier particles are at a higher temp. than the m.pt. of the foam suppressor and spraying is carried out until the mixt. agglomerates to particles of dia. 100-1500 micron; there after 0.02-0.3 pts. fine particles having a softening point above the temp. of the mixt. are added and the mixt. is allowed to cool to below the melting temp. of the suppressor. Used as a foam suppressor for household washing powders where the basic anionic constituents tend to excessive foam prodn. Method enables a low-melting foam suppressor to be produced in a powdered form which has a long shelf life. The later addn. of the quantity of powder, which may be the same material as the original carrier material, results in stabilisation of the agglomerated material.

Abstract: A method for regulating the viscosity of aqueous detergent and cleanser slurries, in which there are added to the slurries, as viscosity regulators, dihydric, trihydric or tetrahydric aliphatic alcohols, monobasic aliphatic carboxylic acids, hydroxycarboxylic acids, esters of the said alcohols and the said acids or mixtures of these, in which compounds the alcohols, carboxylic acids and hydroxycarboxylic acids, and the individual components of the esters, are of 5 to 9 carbon atoms, of which one is a quaternary atom, the alcohols and hydroxycarboxylic acids carry exclusively primary alcohol groups, and the carboxylic acids and hydroxycarboxylic acids have the carboxyl group bonded to the quaternary carbon atom.
