    Abstract: In a process for preparing polyether alcohols by catalytic addition of at least two alkylene oxides onto H-functional initiator substances, at least one multimetal cyanide compound is used as catalyst and the addition of the alkylene oxides onto the initiator substance includes incorporation of at least one oxyalkylene block during whose formation at least two alkylene oxides are metered in together and the ratio of the alkylene oxides to one another in the mixture is changed during the joint introduction.

    Abstract: Sound-damping and energy-absorbing flexible PUR foams are produced by reacting organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates (a) with a polyetherol mixture (b) and, if desired, further compounds (c) bearing hydrogen atoms which are reactive toward isocyanates, in the presence of water and/or other blowing agents (d), catalysts (e) and, if desired, further auxiliaries and additives (f), wherein the polyetherol mixture (b) comprises b1) at least one bifunctional to eight-functional polyetherol based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and ethylene oxide, where the proportion of ethylene oxide, based on the total amount of alkylene oxide used, is more than 40% by weight, and having an OH number of from 20 to 1000 mg KOH/g and a proportion of primary OH groups of greater than 50%, with the proviso that b1) comprises at least one at least bifunctional polyetherol b1.1) having an OH number of from 20 to 100 mg KOH/g, b2) at least one bifunctional to six-functional polyetherol based on propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide and having an OH number of greater than 30 mg KOH/g and b3) at least one further polyetherol based on ethylene oxide and propylene oxide and having a proportion of primary OH groups of more than 25%, where the component b1) is used in a proportion of more than 30% by weight, based on the total weight of the polyetherol mixture (b). The sound-damping and energy-absorbing PUR foams produced by this process can be used as energy absorbers, damping material and for filling hollow spaces.

    Abstract: Easily processed soft PUR foams of good noise damping properties and high loss factor can be prepared from special polyurethane mixtures. Easily processed PUR foams of good noise damping properties and high loss factor can be prepared from special polyetherol mixtures, i.e. by: (a) reaction of organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates; with (b) a polyetherol mixture; and optionally with (c) other compounds having a hydrogen atom reactive to isocyanates in the presence of water and/or other propellant, catalysts, and optionally adjuvants and additives. The polyether mixture (b) comprises: (1) at least 2-8-functional polyetherols based on ethylene oxide and propylene oxide and optionally butylene oxide, of OH number 20-80 mg KOH/g and more than 50% primary OH groups; and (2) at least one castor oil polyetherol based on ethylene oxide and optionally propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide of OH number 50-160 mg KOH/g. An Independent claim is included for a polyurethane foam material having noise damping properties prepared as above.

    Abstract: A polyol component used for the production of polyurethane foam contains at least one ethoxylated compound with 3-8 reactive hydrogen atoms and a high ethylene oxide content plus low-molecular weight polyfunctional chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers with a high hydroxyl number. Production of polyurethane (PUR) foam comprises reacting (a) optionally modified di- and/or poly-isocyanates, with (b) high-molecular weight compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogen atoms, (c) ethylene oxide adduct(s) with 3-8, preferably 3-6 reactive H atoms, an ethylene oxide (EO) content of more than 50 wt.% and an OH number of 200-800 mg KOH/g, and (d) low-molecular weight chain- extenders and/or crosslinkers with at least two reactive H atoms and an OH number of more than 700 mg KOH/g, in the presence of (e) blowing agents, (f) catalysts, and optionally (g) other additives etc. An Independent claim is also included for PUR foam containing the above components, in which the amounts of (c) and (d) (based on the weight of components (b)-(g)) are 0.5-10 and 0.5-6 wt.% respectively, preferably with a mol. ratio of (c):(d) = 10-0.3, especially 3.0-0.3.
