    Abstract: The invention relates to the polymerisation of alpha -monoolefins by means of a catalyst system comprising (1) a titanium component obtained by first (1.a) preparing an intermediate from (1.a.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.a.2) a modifier and (1.a.3) magnesium alkoxide, and then (1.b) preparing the titanium component from (1.b.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.b.2) the intermediate from (1.a) and optionally (1.b.3) a further modifier; (2) an alkyl aluminium compound; (3) a cocatalyst, characterised in that (i) a titanium component (1) is employed which is obtained by first (1.1) preparing a first intermediate from (1.1.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.1.2) a modifier made from (1.1.2.1) an ester of titanic acid and o-phthalic anhydride, and (1.1.3) magnesium alkoxide, then (1.2) preparing a second intermediate from (1.2.1) titanium tetrachloride, (1.2.2) the intermediate from (1.1) and optionally (1.2.3) o-phthalic anhydride as further modifier, and finally (1.3) preparing the titanium component from (1.3.1) titanium tetrachloride and (1.3.2) the intermediate from (1.2); and (ii) a trialkoxy silane is employed as cocatalyst (3).

    Abstract: Propylene-ethylene copolymers obtainable by two-step polymerisation from the gas phase in an agitated fixed bed by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system containing an aluminium compound as cocatalyst in addition to a titanium-containing solid component, in which, in a first polymerisation step, propylene is polymerised at a pressure of from 20 to 40 bar, a temperature of from 60 to 90 DEG C and a mean residence time of the reaction mixture of from 1 to 5 hours, giving from 0.05 to 2 kg of polypropylene per mmol of the aluminium compound, and subsequently, in a second polymerisation step, a mixture of propylene and ethylene is polymerised onto the polymer discharged from the first polymerisation step, at a pressure of from 5 to 30 bar, this pressure being at least 7 bar below the pressure in the first polymerisation step, a temperature of from 30 to 100 DEG C and a mean residence time of the reaction mixture of from 1 to 5 hours, the ratio between the partial pressures of propylene and ethylene being set in the range from 0.5 : 1 to 5 : 1, and a) the weight ratio between the monomers reacted in the first and second polymerisation steps is set so that it is in the range from 2.5 : 1 to 20 : 1, or b) the polymerisation in the second polymerisation step is carried out in the presence of a C1-C8 alkanol, the weight ratio between the monomers reacted in the first and the second polymerisation steps being from 1 : 1 to 20 : 1. s

    Abstract: Polymers of propene are prepared using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system consisting of (1) a titanium component which contains titanium, magnesium, chlorine and a benzenecarboxylic acid derivative on a carrier, (2) an aluminum component and (3) a silane component. The process employs a titanium component (1) which is obtained by a method in which (1.1) first a solid-phase intermediate is prepared from (I) magnesium chloride, (II) an alkanol, (III) a carrier which in turn consists of a finely divided inorganic oxide carrier material which has been pretreated with an alkylchlorosilane, (IV) titanium tetrachloride and (V) a phthalic acid derivative, in such a way that (1.1.1) first (I) is reacted with (II), (1.1.2) then the carrier (III) is introduced into the substance resulting from (1.1.1), (1.1.3) thereafter the solid-phase substance resulting from (1.1.2) is reacted with (IV) in a liquid hydrocarbon, with the proviso that (V) is also introduced in (1.1.1) or (1.1.2) or (1.1.3), the (1.2) the solid-phase substance resulting from (1.1) is extracted with titanium tetrachloride, and finally the solid-phase substance resulting from (1.2) is extracted with a liquid hydrocarbon.

    Abstract: Propene is (co)polymerised at 20-160 deg.C and 1-100 bar with a Ziegler-natta catalyst (I) comprising a Ti component (II) contg. Ti, Mg, Cl and a benzenecarboxylic acid deriv. on a support, and components of formula R3Al (III) and (R1)nSi(OR2)4-n (IV) (with R = max. 8C alkyl; R1 = max. 16C aryl, aralkyl or alkyl; R2 = max. 15C alkyl; n = 0-3); ratio Ti:Al is from 1:10 to 1:800 and mol. ratio (III):(IV) is from 1:0.03 to 1:0.8. The novelty is that (II) is mfd. by (a) mixing MgCl2 with inert liq. hydrocarbon (V) (20-1000 pts.wt./10 pts.wt/ MgCl2) and 1-8C alkanol (10-8O pts. mol/10 pts. mol.) for 0.1-6 hrs. at 20-140 deg.C, or with alkanol alone (100-10O0 pts.mol/10pts. mol.), (b) adding 20-100 pts. wt. support material/10 pts.wt. MgCl2 at 0-140 deg.C and drying, and (c) mixing the prod. with ToCl4 (20-300 pts. mol./100 pts. mol. alkanol) and (V) (10-100 pts. wt./10 pts. wt. support) for .1-4 hrs. at 10-150 deg.C and isolating the solid rod. (A). In one of these sub-stages 1-100 pts. mol. phthali acid deriv./1O0 ts. mol. MgCl2 is added; this cpd. is hthalic anhydride, hthalyl chloride or di-(1-1OC)-alkyl phthalate; the support is SiO2.aAl2O3 (with a = 0-2; particle size, 1-1O00 microns; ore vol. 0.3-3 cm3/g; surface area 100-100O m2/g) which is pre-treated with (R3)mSiCl4-m (with R3 = 1-10C alkyl; m = 1-3) in (V) at 20-160 deg.C for 0.1-5 hrs. (1-50 ts. mol. chlorosilane/ 1 pts. mol. SiO2 cpd. and 20-2O0 ts. mol. (V)/10 pts. mol. chlorosilane) or with 5-50 pts. mol. chlorosilane alone at 20-140 deg.C. Prod. (A) is (d) extd. with 10-100 pts. wt. TiCl4/10 pts. wt. (A) at 100-150 deg.C for 0.2-5 hrs., and then (c) extd. with (V) until the solid prod. (II) contains 0.01-30 wt.% free TiCl4.
