Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of homopolymers and copolymers of propylene by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system comprising (1) a certain titanium halide (titanium trichloride/aluminium chloride cocrystallizate), (2) a certain oxygen compound (ester), (3) an alkylaluminium compound and (4) a certain phenolic substance, which is characterised in that, in a separate process step, the polymer is homogenised and extruded without other interim treatment together with small amounts of (A) a complex compound of formula MgxAly(OH)2x+3y-2z(CO3)z.aH2O, where x = 3 to 8, y = 1 to 3, z = 0.5 to 2 and a = 0 to 6, (B) pentaerythrityl tetrakis [3-(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)]propionate, (C) tetrakis (2,4-di-t-butylphenyl)-4,4-diphenyl diphosphonite, and (D) calcium stearate, with melting of the polymer, giving polymers which have particularly good applicational properties.

Abstract: Random copolymers (I) of propylene with ethylene and 4-10 carbon (C) alk-1-ene(s), with a melting point of 135 degrees C (by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method), are obtained by polymerising the monomers from the gas phase, in the absence of a liquid reaction medium, at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system containing (a) solid component containing titanium (Ti), a halogenated magnesium (Mg) compound, an electron donor and an inorganic oxide as carrier, (b) an aluminium (Al) compound and (c) another electron donor compound. The novelty is that the ratio of the partial pressures is adjusted to (20-100):1 for propylene and ethylene and (2.5-20):1 for 4-10 C alk-1-ene(s) and ethylene. Also claimed are: (i) the production of (I) in this way; and (ii) films, fibres or mouldings containing (I).

(B) is 13-docosenoic acid amide (erucamide) and/or 9-octadecenoic acid amide (oleamide), in amts. of 0.08-0.2 wt.%.
