Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of manifesting a high stiffness, excellent thermal stability, extremely low gel content, etc., by reacting a polymer containing a propylene homopolymer and a propylene copolymer with a compound such as a polyfunctional (meth)acrylic acid derivative. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by reacting (A) a polymer containing (i) 60-92wt.% propylene homopolymer and (ii) 8-40wt.% propylene copolymer containing 15-70wt.% comonomer of a 2-10C 1-alkene introduced into the polymer chain based on the amount of the copolymer, with (B) a compound of the formula [R is H or a 1-4C alkyl; X is a 1-30C alkyl, etc.; (n) is 2 or 3] at 180-280 deg.C under 1-100 bar pressure within the range of 0.2-10min average retention time of the reaction mixture. Abstract: A partially crosslinked polymer composition having a melt flow index of from 0.1 to 50 g/10 min at 230 DEG C. under a weight of 2.16 kg and comprising a) a polymer comprising from 25 to 95% by weight of polypropylene and 5 to 75% by weight of a propylene copolymer with copolymerized C2-C10-alk-1-enes, the comonomer content being from 1 to 45% by weight, based on the total polymer, b) an organosilane compound of the formula (I) A4-nSiRn(i) where A are identical or different acrylates or methacrylates or vinyl groups, R are identical or different C1-C8-alkoxy or C1-C8-acetoxy groups, and n is 1, 2 or 3, obtainable by reacting the polymer a) with the organosilane compound b) in the presence of a free-radical initiator and in the presence of a condensation catalyst at from 180 DEG to 280 DEG C., and at from 1 to 100 bar and at a mean residence time of the reaction mixture of from 0.2 to 10 minutes, has, in particular, high notched impact strength, increased puncture resistance and improved weld line strength.

Abstract: Partially cross-linked synthetic materials (M) with a melt flow index (MFI) of 0.1-100 g/10 minutes (230 degrees C, 2.16 kg) and gel content less than 12 wt.% comprise: (A) a polymer of (A1) 60-92 wt.% propylene homopolymer and (A2) 8-40 wt.% propylene copolymer with 15-70 wt.% 2-10C alk-1-ene comonomers ; and (B) a compound of formula (H2C=C(R )-CO2)nX (I), where R = H or 1-4C alkyl; X = optionally substituted 1-30C alkyl or 7-30C arylalkyl, optionally containing at least one ether or carboxy function O atoms and/or NR groups in the alkyl chain; R = H or 1-6C (hydroxy)alkyl; and n = 2-3. (M) are prepared by reacting (A) and (B) for 0.2-10 minutes at 180-280 degrees C and 1-100 bar. Also claimed is this preparation method.

Abstract: The invention relates to the production of films from propene polymers, characterised in that propene polymers are employed which are obtained by continuous preparation of random copolymers of propene by polymerization of a monomer mixture by means of a Ziegel-Natta catalyst system in the gas phase in a central stirred bed of finely divided polymer with dissipation of the heat of polymerization by evaporative cooling, where the monomer mixture is constantly introduced into the polymerization zone and the polymer is constantly discharged from the polymerization zone, with the provisos that (a) the pressure and temperature in the polymerization zone are kept in a range which corresponds to the gaseous state of the monomer mixture, (b) gaseous, unconsumed monomer mixture is discharged from the polymerization zone and is re-introduced into the polymerization zone in liquid form, (c) the temperature in the polymerization zone is regulated by means of the amount of liquid monomer mixture introduced per time unit, and (d) the monomers consumed by polymerization are replaced, with the particular feature that - using a monomer mixture comprising principally propene, a little ethylene and very little hydrogen - the residence time of the monomer mixture in the polymerization zone is kept very short.

Abstract: Continuous prodn. of random copolymers (I) of propene with other monoalkenes is carried out in the qas phase in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system at 50-80 deg.C and 20-35 bar in a centric stirred bed of small polymer particles with a Froude No. of 1-3, in which the heat of polymerisation is removed by evaporative cooling. The monomer mixt. is supplied and (I) is discharged from the polymerisation zone continuously or cyclically. The process is carried out under conditions such that: (a) the polymerisation zone is kept in a pressure and temp. range at which the monomer mixt. is gaseous; (b) the unpolymerised monomer mixt. is discharged as gas, liquefied, stored and recycled to the polymerisation zone in liq. form; (c) the temp. in the polymerisa-tion zone is controlled by monitoring the temp. continuously and varying the amt. of liq. monomer mixt. introduced in unit time, which vaporises in the reactor; and (d) replacing the polymerised monomers by supplying fresh monomers. The novelty is that the monomer mixt. used contains 0.5-3.5 mole-% ethylene and 0.2-1.0 mole-%. H2 w.r.t. propene nand the dwell time of the monomer mixt. in the polymerisation zone is 0.5-8 min.
