    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method for a low power consumption liquid crystal display device excellent in picture quality and reliability by outputting two-split correction voltages even in case a gate line load increases as a result of a large-sized and high precision display screen. SOLUTION: A potential of a gate line Gn+1 is raised up to Vc1a, and at the same time, a potential of the previous stage gate line Gn is raised from Vc1a to Vc1b. And, for example, by making the potential of the gate line Gn+1 to Vc1b after 1H, a final effective value correction is performed to a picture element connected with the gate line Gn+1. In this way, a punch-through correction potential Vc1a and the effective correction potential Vc1b are separated into two steps to be applied to an auxiliary capacitor Cs. And since the effective value correction is performed after the punch-through voltage correction at the first step, the effective value correction does not decrease as it approaches to the gate end part.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the liquid crystal display device which is improved the light shielding capability in a frame area and preventing capability against electrostatic trouble without increasing manufacture processes as to the improvement of the frame area of the liquid crystal display panel of the liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION: A light shield layer 12 is formed in the frame area 1 on a TFT array substrate 3. The edge part of the light shield layer 12 has an overlap area 14 which overlaps with respective edge parts of data lines 10 as metallic layers and the surface of the TFT array substrate 3 by a specific overlap quantity (d) when viewed vertically. An insulating layer 16 is formed on the light shield layer 12 and TFT array substrate 3. On the insulating layer 16, a semiconductor layer 18 is formed. The data lines 10 are wired on the semiconductor layer 18.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To decrease flicker on a screen and to use a driving circuit IC in a small chip size with low power consumption by making different for each picture element the connection of thin film transistors for driving respective picture elements to row signal lines and column signal lines, and driving the respective picture elements between the adjacent picture elements while mutually inverting polarities. CONSTITUTION: A gate driving circuit 1 is connected to (n) pieces of row signal lines G1 -Gn and outputs a gate signal Gn . A 1st data driving circuit 2 is connected to odd-numbers column signal lines D1 -Dm-1 and outputs a 1st data signal VDm . Besides, a 2nd data driving circuit 3 is connected to even-numbered signal lines D2 -Dm-2 and outputs a 2nd data signal VDm+1 . In this case, the polarity of the 1st data signal VDm is inverse to that of the 2nd data signal VDm+1 . Thus, without increasing the cost of the data driving circuit and increasing power consumption, flicker on the screen can be decreased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for specifying the type of the defect of a TFT/ LCD array. CONSTITUTION: In a TFT/LCD, a driving pulse is impressed to the end part to be driven of a gate line 24, it is confirmed that the gate line is not disconnected, that is, it is continuous by observing the presence of a corresponding characteristic pulse on a first data line 20 close to the driven end part of this gate line and the presence of the corresponding characteristic pulse on a second data line passing through the opposite end part to this driven end part. In the same way, the gate lines are successively tested, the continuous gate lines at the uppermost side and the continuous gate lines at the lowermost side are found on a display panel, and the completeness of all data lines is evaluated by using those continuous gate lines at the uppermost and lowermost sides. Thus, this TFT/LCD array can be tested.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the discontinuity defect and the shorting defect of shorting lines and thin film transistors by connecting the shorting line formed along an outer periphery beyond a display area on an insulating substrate within a resistance area constituted of the thin film transistors. CONSTITUTION: Plural address wirings 2 and data wirings 3 are formed on the display area on the insulating substrate 1. The source electrodes 4C of the thin film transistors(TFT) 4 formed at respective crossing points are connected to picture element electrodes 5. The address wirings 2 and the data wirings 3 extend beyond the display area and they are connected to driving pulse input pads 8 and 9 and a resistor 10, TFT 11 and 12 constituting the resistors 10 are connected to the shorting lines 13 which mutually short all the resistors 10. The shorting lines 13 are formed in a ladder form along the outer periphery on the insulating substrate 1. When the address wirings 2 are charged by static electricity, current flows between the shorting lines 13 through the resistors 10 in a direction where the charge is compensated. Thus, voltage generated between the address wirings 2 and the data-wirings 3 can be suppressed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device with little image display failure or deterioration. SOLUTION: The device has a common wire 502, gate wire 503, source wire 204 and alignment film in the outer peripheral region of a liquid crystal cell. The alignment film is insulated by an insulating film from the gate wire 503 and the source wire 204. The common wire 502 has a common potential exposed part 401 through an opening formed in the insulating film and electrically connected with the alignment film. Since the common voltage which is near the average voltage of the cell is supplied on the alignment film, display failure in the screen or deterioration caused by impurity ions remaining on the surface of the alignment film or in the alignment film can be prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent destruction due to static electricity, and to drive a display device by low power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A short-circuit line 36 and a short-circuit line 38 connected through a resistance 40 are provided on a transparent substrate 14 of a liquid crystal display, and each data line 28a-28m is connected through a switching circuit 46 with the short-circuit line 36, and each gate line 32a-32n is connected through a switching circuit 52 with the short-circuit line 38. The switching circuits 46 and 52 are turned on when a potential difference between the data line 28 and the short-circuit line 36 or the potential difference between the gate line 32 and the short-circuit line 38 is beyond a prescribed value. At the time of displaying a picture on a liquid crystal display, the mean voltage of a voltage applied to each data line is applied to the short-circuit line 36, the mean voltage of the voltage applied to each gate line is applied to the short- circuit line 38, and the switching circuits 46 and 52 are turned off.
