    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the discontinuity defect and the shorting defect of shorting lines and thin film transistors by connecting the shorting line formed along an outer periphery beyond a display area on an insulating substrate within a resistance area constituted of the thin film transistors. CONSTITUTION: Plural address wirings 2 and data wirings 3 are formed on the display area on the insulating substrate 1. The source electrodes 4C of the thin film transistors(TFT) 4 formed at respective crossing points are connected to picture element electrodes 5. The address wirings 2 and the data wirings 3 extend beyond the display area and they are connected to driving pulse input pads 8 and 9 and a resistor 10, TFT 11 and 12 constituting the resistors 10 are connected to the shorting lines 13 which mutually short all the resistors 10. The shorting lines 13 are formed in a ladder form along the outer periphery on the insulating substrate 1. When the address wirings 2 are charged by static electricity, current flows between the shorting lines 13 through the resistors 10 in a direction where the charge is compensated. Thus, voltage generated between the address wirings 2 and the data-wirings 3 can be suppressed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the visual field angle dependency and the visibility of letters by providing an optical waveguide array on one main surface of a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 12 is formed of ITO on a glass substrate 11 and an upper electrode 14 of ITO, a color filter 15, and a black matrix 16 for leak light prevention are formed on an upper glass substrate 13. Then orienting films are formed on both the glass substrates, liquid crystal is charged to form a twisted nematic (TN) cell, and the optical waveguide array is adhered on the TN cell while aligning picture elements. An optical waveguide part 17 is formed of polymethacrylate and a clad part 18 is formed of a fluorine- based polymer; and a light diffusing plate 19 is arranged on this optical waveguide array in contact to form a display and a core part 17 is formed including picture elements of red, green, and blue(RGB). Consequently, the inferiority of the visual field angle dependency and the visibility of letters can be improved.

    Abstract: An active matrix type liquid crystal display device with a short-circuiting wire for mutually short-circuiting address wires and data wires through the medium of resistors made of a thin-film transistor is formed along the periphery of a display region on an insulating substrate. The short-circuiting wire is electrically connected inside a region in which the resistors made of a thin-film transistor are formed. In one embodiment, the transistors are surrounded by a portion of the shod circuiting wire. In another embodiment, they are partially surrounded by the wire with a gate electrode which is not protruding out. In another embodiment they are formed with two source and drain regions, one which has a lower breakdown voltage than the other.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to form source and drain electrodes just following a pattern with good reproducibility without damaging electrical characteristics by a method wherein the source and drain electrodes are formed into a structure, in which an Al alloy film is laminated on an Mo-W alloy film. CONSTITUTION:A Ta film is sputtered on a glass substrate 11 in a thickness of 2000Angstrom and a taper etching is performed by plasma etching to form a gate electrode 12 by patterning. Then, an SiO film 13, an undoped a-Si (amorphous silicon) film 14 and an N a-Si film 15 are respectively deposited in a thickness of 2000Angstrom , a thickness of 3000Angstrom and a thickness of 500Angstrom by a plasma CVD method and after an Mo film is deposited in a thickness of 500Angstrom , a patterning is performed to form an a-Si island. After a ITO pixel electrode is formed, a contact hole is opened and after this, the Mo film is peeled and at the same time, an Mo-W alloy film 16 and an Al alloy film 17 are respectively deposited in a thickness of 500Angstrom and a thickness of 1mum by sputtering and source and drain electrodes are formed with an Al etching liquid. Thereby, the source and drain electrodes can be formed with good reproducibility.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify a process, prevent a defect in picture quality, and to improve the precision of a cell gap by forming a bump on a liquid crystal driving substrate except on a display electrode and using the bump as a spacer. CONSTITUTION:An active matrix substrate for liquid crystal driving is constituted by arranging an address electric conductor 102 and a data electric conductor 103 on an undercoated insulating substrate 101 and providing a picture element electrode nearby intersection of the electric conductors. On an opposite substrate, an auxiliary address electric conductor 12 is provided and the bump 11 is provided on the address electric conductor 102 to connect it. An opposite transparent electrode is formed except in the area wherein the active matrix substrate for liquid crystal driving and opposite substrate are connected by the bump 11. Namely, the bump 11 provided on the address electric conductor 102 serves as the spacer for forming a space wherein liquid crystal is charged and is used for electric conduction between the opposite substrate and active matrix substrate for liquid crystal driving so as to control the potential of the opposite display electrode 114.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To avoid the deterioration of the picture quality in long-time operation and to improve the quality by surrounding a pattern formed in the display region by a first signal wiring layer with a seal part and making the pattern continuous once by a material constituting a second signal wiring layer in the region between the seal part and the display region. CONSTITUTION:The first signal wiring layer 2 in the display region in the liq. crystal driving semiconductor device substrate is cut outside the display region 6 and in the region surrounded by the seal part 5, brought into contact with the material constituting the second signal wiring layer 4 at least once through a through hole 7 bored in the interlayer insulating layer 3 and led outside the region surrounded by the seal part 5. Accordingly, the diffusion of the minute crack generated in the first signal wiring layer 2 in the thermal or sealing stages where a high pressure is locally applied in the producing or assembling process to the display region 6 is effectively prevented or avoided. Consequently, the picture quality is not deteriorated in long-time operation, and the necessary display function is maintained and exhibited at all times.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To cut down cost and to reduce wiring resistance and to increase a rate of performation by forming a data line and a drain of a transparent conductor and metallic layers laminated on it and by forming an picture element electrode and a source of a transparent conductor. CONSTITUTION:The data line and the drain of a thin film transistor TFT are formed of the transparent conductor 13 and the metallic layer 16 and 17 laminated on it, and the picture element electrode and the source of the TFT are formed of the transparent conductor 13. The wiring resistance of a data line is reduced without reducing the numerical aperture. I.e., the resistance of the data line and the drain concerning with the propagation of a signal are low because the metallic layers 16 and 17 are laminated on th transparent conductor 13. Besides, since the picture element which acts to display and the source electrode are formed on only the transparent conductor, the rate of perforation of the source part can be increased as a display electrode. Thus, the efficiency of display can be improved and the cost can be cut down.

CONSTITUTION:The electric resistance formed out of a first TFT element 15 and a second TFT element 17 is connected in series to a liquid crystal cell 21 of a second display region, there by, the difference between the electric field intensity by the voltage impressed to the liquid crystal cell 19 of a first display region by the partial voltage of the electric resistance thereof and the electric field intensity by the voltage impressed to the liquid crystal cell 21 of the second display region, is largely taken and the controllability of the gradation display is improved, and the visual angle characteristic is improved as well. Moreover, the drop of the holding voltage with the lapse of time and the fluctuation therein occurring in the redistribution, etc., of the accumulated charges between the liquid crystal cell 19 and the liquid crystal cell 21, are averted.
