    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare an optically anisotropic, wholly arom. polyester which is melt moldable at a relatively low temp. and to prepare a molded article excellent in the mechanical and thermal properties from the polyester by combining specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:A wholly arom. polyester which comprises the essential structural units I, II, III, and IV shown by formulas I, II, III, and IV, respectively, in a molar ratio of I/(I+II+III) of 3/100-30/100; that of II/III of 8/2-3/7; and that of (II+III)/IV of substantially 1/1. The polyester has a melt viscosity [measured at a temp. 20 deg.C higher than the m.p. at a shear rate of 10 (1/sec)] of 1X10 -2X10 P.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a highly rigid polyester which is melt moldable, excellent in the mechanical and thermal characteristics, and useful as an engineering plastic by producing the polyester which comprises specific structural units and has a specified logarithmic viscosity. CONSTITUTION:A highly rigid polyester comprising 10-100mol% structural units of formula I and 90-0mol% the sum of structural units of formula II (wherein X is a group of formula III-X; Y is a group of formula VI-XIV) and formula XV (wherein Z is a group of formula IV, V, X, or XIII) and having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.5-20dl/g, in a concn. of 0.1g/dl in pentafluorophenol at 60 deg.C is produced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having a balanced combination of excellent mechanical properties, excellent heat resistance, and excellent moldability into a thin-wall article by incorporating a filler and a specific silane compound into a specific liquid-crystal rein. CONSTITUTION:The composition comprises 100 pts.wt. at least one liquid-crystal resin selected from among liquid-crystal polyesters and liquid-crystal polyester- amides which each forms an anisotropic melt phase, 1-300 pts.wt. filler, and 0.01-20 pts.wt. silane compound having a mol.wt. of 400 or higher. For imparting flame retardancy, an organobromine compound can be further incorporated in an amount of about 0.5-60 pts.wt. The filler is preferably glass fibers. The silane compound is preferably an organopolysiloxane having side chains containing at least one functional group selected from among alkoxysilyl, alkoxy, epoxy, carboxyl, and like groups.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyphenylene sulfide resin composition reduced in the burr formation and improved in weld strength by mixing a specified polyphenylene sulfide resin and a specified liquid crystal polymer, a specified epoxy compound and filler. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt., in total, 95-5wt.% polyphenylene sulfide resin having a number-average molecular weight of 7000-15000 (gel permeation chromatography using a 1-chloronaphthalene solvent) and a melt flow rate after a 15min residence (as specified in ASTM D1238-86 (at 315.5 deg.C under a load of 500g) corresponding to 50-95% of the melt flow rate after a 5min residence, having a cross-linkage and containing 70mol% or above repeating units of formula I and 5-95wt.% liquid crystal polymer capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase when melted is mixed with 0.1-5 pts.wt. epoxy compound selected from between the compounds of formulas II and III (wherein R1 and R2 are each -COOG, -OG, a group of formula IV or a group of formula V: and G is a group of formula VI) and 0-400 pts.wt. filler, and the resulting mixture is melt-kneaded at 280-380 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a resin composition excellent in impact strength, mechanical properties, etc., useful for electrical, electronic and automotive parts, comprising a liquid crystal polyester made up of constituent units of respective specific formulas and granulated potassium titanate at specified proportions. CONSTITUTION:The composition comprising (A) 100 pts.wt. of a liquid crystal polyester made up of structural units of respective formulas I to IV (R1 is of formula V, etc.; R2 is of formula VI, etc.) and (B) 5-300 (pref. 10-150) pts.wt. of granulated potassium titanate 0.2-0.6 (pref. 0.3-0.4) in bulk specific gravity, 0.15-0.5 (pref. 0.2-0.3)mm in mean particle diameter and 38-47 deg. (pref. 38-42) in angle of repose. This composition has the following characteristics: (1) melt viscosity: =4.5mum. The formulas II plus III and formula IV are virtually equimolar to each other.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a tubular molded article having a low coefficient thermal expansion, excellent toughness, thermal aging resistance, etc., comprising a resin composition prepared by adding an epoxy resin to a mixture of an anisotropic melt phase-forming liquid crystal polyester and a non-anisotropic melt phase-forming thermoplastic resin. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. resin mixture comprising (A) 1-99wt.% anisotropic melt phase-forming liquid crystal polyester and (B) 99-1wt.% thermoplastic resin (preferably polybutylene terephthalate) not forming anisotropic melt phase is blended with (C) 0.01-20 pts.wt. epoxy compound (preferably diglycidyl ester compound such as phthalic acid diglycidyl ester) to give a resin composition, which is molded into a tubular shape. The component A, for example, is obtained by subjecting a diacylated compound of p-acetoxybenzoic acid and an aromatic dihydroxy compound such as 4,4'-diacetoxybiphenyl and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid such as terephthalic acid to deacetylating polycondensation.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject resin, containing a specific phosphorus-containing compound as a copolymerization component, capable of exhibiting liquid crystallinity at low temperatures and forming an anisotropic molten phase, good in flame retardance and excellent in moldability, fluidity and mechanical strength. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin is composed of structural units selected from formulas I to IV (X is formulas V, VI, etc.; Y is formulas VI, VII, etc.) at (10/0)-(1/9) molar ratio of the units expressed by formulas (I/II) and (10/0)-(3/7) molar ratio of the units expressed by formulas (III/IV). The aforementioned resin has 10-30000 P melt viscosity measured at a temperature of (the liquid crystal starting temperature +70 deg.C) and 1000/sec shearing rate. The above- mentioned resin is preferably obtained by respectively using 9,10-dihydro-9- oxa-10-(2',5'dihydroxyphenyl)phosphaphenanthrene as a raw material for the units expressed by formula I, hydroquinone, etc., as a raw material for the units expressed by formula II, 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid as a raw material for the units expressed by formula III and isophthalic acid, etc., as a raw material for the units expressed by formula TV according to a deacetylating polymerization method.
