    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring device of a substrate of excellent precision and reproducibility for shortening a measuring time and the production method of a color filter or a transparent electrode substrate. SOLUTION: The measuring device of a substrate judges the presence of a projection-like matter set on at least one substrate constituting a liquid crystal element sandwiching the liquid crystal composition between a pair of opposite substrates. A stage 2 mounting a sample, a height measuring means 3 or an imaging means and a data processor 5 are provided, and the presence of the projection-like matter is judged from height information obtained from the height measuring means 3 and intensity information obtained from the imaging means.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve a uniformity and reproducibility of a film thickness and to suppress a generation of a coated film stripe due to a flocculation and deposition of a pigment by enlarging a contact angle of a manifold and/or a land part 5 of a slit 3 to the water than that of a lip tip part. CONSTITUTION: A magnitude of a surface energy is defined with a contact angle to water. That is, when the contact angle to the water is larger, it indicates that the surface energy is smaller. By the way, when a paint 7 is mainly composed of a polymer, a pigment and a solvent, the pigment is allowed to flocculate and deposit and a stripe is allowed to sometimes generate at a coated film by a shearing force at the land part 5 where a gap is narrow as several tens μm. The use of a material low in surface energy is effective to suppress the deposition of this pigment on the surface of the land part 5. Thereby, the surface energy is lowered by making the contact angle of a manifold 4 and/or the land part 5 of the slit 3 to the water larger than that of the lip tip parts 6a and 6b being a contact surface of the paint.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a heat-resistant color paste for a color filter having improved in adhesion property for a substrate, especially for a glass substrate without decreasing physical properties of a polyimide resin excellent in heat resistance, weather resistance, stability and electric characteristics. CONSTITUTION:This color paste for a color filter used for a liquid crystal display element and a solid-state image pickup element is produced by dispersing pigments in a polyimide siloxane precursor. This precursor is obtd. by the reaction of diamine, siloxane diamine and tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. The proportion of siloxane diamine to the diamino compd. is 5-10mol%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a color filter having a small depolarizing effect so that when this filter assembled in a liquid crystal display cell, such a product having high contrast and good display performance can be obtd. by using a coloring agent comprising an org. pigment and specifying the proportion of components except for the extender in the org. pigment. CONSTITUTION:The coloring agent consists of an org. pigment in which the proportion of components except for the extender is >=95wt.%. It is preferable that the proportion is >=97wt.%, and more preferably, >=99wt.%. The extender is a transparent or white pigment to be added to thin the color of the org. pigment and to control its color tone. For example, barium sulfate, heavy magnesium carbonate, soft magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, aluminum oxide, kaolinite, halloysite, muscovite, and talc are used. To obtain a color filter having a small depolarization effect, it is preferable to select such a pigment having =5wt.% extender, the extender can be removed in the production process of a paste, such as dispersing or filtering.

    Abstract: Spacers are fixed to non-display regions to a liquid crystal display element substrate and the compression displacement ratio of the spacer for the load of a compression stress of 0.5 - 0.6 GPa is 0.001 - 1 mu m/mN. In a liquid crystal display which comprises two liquid crystal display element substrates and a liquid crystal layer held between the two substrates, at least one of the two substrates is a liquid crystal display element substrate which is above described. With this constitution, sufficient cell gaps can be realized and uniform cell gaps can be maintained in the screen and the problems of the degradation of the display quality caused by the variation of the cell gaps and the generation of foams at low temperature can be solved.     Abstract: A coating method and a coating apparatus which is suitable for stably forming a coating on the surface of a flat sheet member, and a method of manufacturing coated sheets such as a color filter. The coating method comprises the steps of supplying a coating liquid to a coating liquid discharging apparatus having a coating liquid discharging slit by means of a coating liquid feeder, relatively moving at least either the coating liquid discharging apparatus or a member to be coated and forming a coating having a predetermined thickness on the member. A coating start portion of the member is stopped at a place at which it opposes the coating liquid discharging slit of the coating liquid discharging apparatus, and discharge of the coating liquid from the coating liquid discharging slit is started. After a coating liquid bead which is in touch with both of the front end opening of the coating liquid discharging slit and the coating start portion of the member is formed, relative movement of at least either the coating liquid discharging apparatus or the member is started. By the coating method, discharge of the coating liquid is started when the member stops relative to the coating liquid discharging slit, and after the formation of the coating liquid bead is confirmed, the member is relatively moved in a state that the coating liquid bead remains stable. Therefore, the coating start position can be correctly determined, and a coating can be formed highly accurately.
