Abstract: An ultraviolet ray measuring, apparatus is provided which comprises first and second photodiodes having substantially the same spectral sensitivity at least in an ultraviolet band, and a first optical filter arranged in front of a light-receiving face of the second photodiode, for shielding only light of at least a part of the ultraviolet band , and measures the light intensity and its accumulated value in accordance with the difference between electric signals output from the first and second photodiodes. It is preferable that a second optical filter, which has a main transmitting band in the ultraviolet band and a sub-transmitting band in the visible light range, be arranged in front of the light-receiving faces of the first and second photodiode. A multi-step bar graph display device displays indexes, such as an MED multiple value and an SPF value, which represent the measured light intensity and accumulated value in association with a reference MEL) value, so that this apparatus can suitably serve as a sunburn monitor.

Abstract: During the replacement of a fully wound bobbin by a fresh empty bobbin, yarn is guided onto an auxiliary winding roller. Initially, the yarn is transferred to the auxiliary roller without the yarn being traversed and the full bobbin is replaced by the empty bobbin. The axially roller is then reversely rotated so that the yarn can be drawn into a path (as shown) adjacent the empty roller. The auxiliary roller is then rotated in the winding direction, and the transverse is started. The yarn is then laterally shifted into engagement with the empty winding bobbin and with the transverse to recommence the main winding again. The bobbin change over time is reduced to 8 seconds and yarn waste is correspondingly reduced.

Abstract: The following is disclosed: (1) a membrane fractionator including a filtration section, a concentrating section, a recovery section and a liquid feed pump, wherein a flow channel connecting the filtration section, concentrating section and recovery section to each other constitutes a closed circuitry; (2) a method of biocomponent separation, characterized in that a sample derived from biocomponents is fed into an antibody adsorption membrane separation system having an antibody capable of adsorbing specified protein internally accommodated in the middle or a rear part of a membrane separation system that in the absence of antibodies adsorbing proteins, exhibits a permeation ratio between human &agr;1-microglobulin and human albumin of 1.5 to 1000, thereby separating part of the biocomponents; and (3) a method of protein fractionation, comprising bringing a solution containing two or more types of proteins and water into contact with a hollow yarn separation membrane to thereby attain protein fractionation, characterized in that the fractionation solution contains an organic solvent.

Abstract: Disclosed is a hollow fiber membrane module (1) for use in the production of a chemical substance, which can be used in the continuous fermentation that comprises filtrating a fermentation culture of a microorganism or a cultured cell through a hollow fiber membrane, collecting a chemical substance from a filtrate, retaining a concentrated solution in the fermentation culture or refluxing the concentrated solution, and further adding a fermentation raw material to the fermentation culture. In the hollow fiber membrane module (1), multiple hollow fiber membrane bundles are accommodated in a tubular case, at least one end part of each of the hollow fiber membrane bundles is fixed onto the tubular case in such a manner that the end surface of each of the hollow fiber membranes is opened by means of a hollow-fiber-membrane-bundling material, and the hollow-fiber-membrane-bundling material comprises a synthetic resin that exhibits a hardness retention rate of 95% or more after the material is brought into contact with a saturated water vapor at 121°C for 24 hours. The hollow fiber membrane module (1) can keep substance productivity at a high level and can be used in the production of a chemical substance by a sterilizable continuous fermentation method.
