    Abstract: A variable capacity vane compressor includes a bearing arrangement having a radial bearing radially supporting a drive shaft of the compressor, and a thrust bearing rotatably supporting a capacity control element. The bearing arrangement comprises an annular member fixed in a through hole formed through a side block of the compressor, through which the drive shaft extends. The annular member has an inner peripheral surface in which the radial and thrust bearings are received. The annular member is formed of a material having a coefficient of thermal expansion substantially equal to that of a material forming the radial bearing. The thrust bearing has a first race disposed on a side thereof close to a rotor of the compressor, and a second race disposed on a side remote from the rotor. The first race is force-fitted in a through hole formed through the capacity control element and slidably fitted in the inner peripheral surface of the annular member. The first and second races have respective inner peripheral surfaces thereof spaced from an outer peripheral surface of the drive shaft.

    Abstract: A variable capacity compressor comprises a control element for determining the timing of start of compression of refrigerant gas. Control pressure which acts on the control element to displace same between the minimum capacity position and the maximum capacity position is created in a high-pressure chamber by introducing discharge pressure thereinto. An electromagnetic valve opens and closes a passageway which commincates between the high-pressure chamber and a suction chamber by a pulse signal supplied from an ECU to control an amount of refrigerant gas leaking from the former into the latter to thereby control the level of the control pressure. The ECU makes the width of at least a first pulse or at least a first pulse base of the pulse signal wider than that of the following pulses or pulse bases, when the control element should start to be displaced between the minimum capacity position and the maximum capacity position. The control pressure is introduced to act on both ends of a valve body of the electromagnetic valve, whereby it is made possible to open the valve by a small driving force of an electromagnetic actuator thereof.

    Abstract: A variable capacity vane compressor (l) has a pressure chamber formed in one side blocks (9) of a cylinder (2) and communicating a zone under lower pressure with a zone under higher pressure, and at least one second inlet port (23) the opening angle of which is variable in response to a difference between pressure within a first pressure chamber (271) of the pressure chamber and pressure within a second pressure chamber of same. The second pressure is communicated with the zone under higher pressure via a high-pressure communication passage and with the zone under lower pressure via a low-pressure communication passage. A control valve device (33) extends across the high-pressure communication passage (29) and the low-pressure communication passage (28), and is disposed to close the low-pressure communication passage (28) and simultaneously open the high-pressure communication passage (29) when pressure within the zone under lower pressure exceeds a predetermined value, and to open the low-pressure communication passage (28) and simultaneously effect one of closing and reduction of the opening area of the high-pressure communication passage (29) when the pressure within the zone under lower pressure is below the predetermined value, whereby the capacity of the compressor can be varied with high responsiveness.

    Abstract: An improved variable capacity vane compressor has at least one second inlet port formed in a cylinder for communicating a suction chamber with at least one compression chamber during a suction stroke. An opening control device varies the opening angle of the second inlet port, and has a pressure receiving portion defining a first pressure chamber communicating with a high pressure side, and a second pressure chamber communicating with a low pressure side. The control device is angularly displaceable in response to a difference between a high pressure and a low pressure in the chambers for causing the opening angle of the second inlet port to vary. A pressure control device is responsive to at least one parameter representative of a thermal load on the compressor for varying at least one of the high and low pressures in the first and second pressure chambers.

    Abstract: The compressor has a cylinder with a curve ring with open face sides closed by two side parts, a rotor rotatably located in the cylinder with an outer peripheral surface and having several radial vane slots in which the vanes are located. Compression, suction, and outflow of a cold medium are activated by volume variation of a compression chamber, which is limited by the curve ring, the side parts, the rotor and two adjoining vanes. At least one outlet channel is provided in at least one of the two side parts, and outlet valves (171,172) open and close the outlet channels. Several grooves (201,202,205) in the outer peripheral surface of the rotor (2) support the outflow, and run along one of the vane slots. The grooves are so arranged that their one end issues in the outlet channel immediately before the rear of two adjacent vanes. USE - To compress a cold medium gas in a vehicle air conditioning unit.
