Abstract:
The present invention provides for a fabrication of an integrated THz source. The fabrication includes integrating a field emitter array (FEA) with a grating by utilizing micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) and grating fabrication methods to build the FEA device upon a moveable surface that can be rotated perpendicular to the other, and locked into alignment or alternately finely adjusted.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for delivering localized x-ray radiation to the interior of a body includes a plurality of x-ray sources disposed in a distal portion of a flexible catheter shaft. The plurality of x-ray sources are secured to a flexible cord disposed longitudinally throughout at least a portion of the shaft. The plurality of x-ray sources are electrically coupled to a control circuit for activating specific ones of the plurality of x-ray sources in order to customize the irradiation of the interior of the body.
Abstract:
A method and an accompanied apparatus for aligning an electron emitter with an extractor hole of a microcolumn. Four V-grooves (240), defined together with the window (220) for forming the membrane and having bottoms situated on two axis are microfabricated on a chip. The axis intersect at a right angle and defines a center point for the extractor hole (230). The V-grooves are then used as references to align the electron emitter with the extractor hole, one axis at a time. The emitter is precisely aligned to the extractor hole because the extractor hole was formed with reference to the V-grooves. The thickness of the chip is used as the spacing reference between the emitter and the extractor.
Abstract:
Display panels comprise at least one suspended fibrous cathode containing an electron field emitter. The fibrous cathode is supported by a substrate (10) containing two sets of parallel rows of crests and valleys. The first set of parallel crests (11) and valleys (12) provide the valleys along which the fibrous cathode is aligned. The second set of parallel crests (13) and valleys (14) is perpendicular to the first set. The valleys (14) provide the means for suspending the fibrous cathode.
Abstract:
A panel display (10) includes a common substrate (56) on which a plurality of small display tiles (12, 13, 14, 15) are mounted in an array and electrically interconnected to replicate a large area panel. Each tile includes a plurality of contact pads (44, 46, 52) which are aligned with corresponding contact pads (72, 74, 78) on the substrate. Solder joints (60, 62, 68) between corresponding contact pads mechanically align and secure the tiles on the substrate, and provide electrical connections therebetween. Selected substrate pads (80, 81) are interconnected to provide electrical connections between adjacent tiles (14, 15).
Abstract:
An imaging apparatus (100) for providing an image from a display (106) to an observer (101), comprising: a display (106) generating an optical output, an imaging surface member (109) constructed and arranged for viewing by said observer, and a scanning mirror/lens assembly (102) optically interposed between the display and the imaging surface member, and constructed and arranged to motively repetitively scan the display, generate a scanned image, and transmit the scanned image to the imaging surface member, for viewing of the scanned image. Various field emitter display designs and subassemblies are described, which may be usefully employed in such imaging apparatus.
Abstract:
A matrix addressed diode flat panel display (820) including a diode pixel structure. The flat panel display includes a cathode assembly having a plurality of cathodes (210-280), each cathode including a plurality of cathode conductive material (440) and a layer of low effective work-function material (460) deposited over the cathode conductive material and an anode assembly having a plurality of anodes (290-292), each anode including a layer of anode conductive material (410) and a cathodoluminescent material (430) deposited over the anode conductive material, the anode assembly located proximate the cathode assembly to thereby receive the charged particle emissions from the cathode assembly. The display further includes means (100) for selectively varying field emissions between the plurality of corresponding light-emitting anodes and field-emission cathodes.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing an x-ray emitter panel 100 including the step of determining a pitch scale, r, to be used in placing x-ray emitter elements 110 on the panel 100, thereby arriving at a specific design of x-ray emitter panel 100 suitable for a specific use.
