    Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or health functional food comprising cathayanin B or kuwanol A, which are compounds isolated from morus bark, for preventing and treating diabetic complications. According to the present invention, the cathayanin B compound is isolated from the morus bark, and inhibits the creation of an advanced glycation end-product (AGE), which is a causative substance of diabetic complications, and aldose reductase activity. Thus, the pharmaceutical composition or health functional food, which comprises the cathayanin B or the kuwanol A, can be useful for inhibiting diabetic complications such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic neuropathy.
