Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating alcohol intoxication and withdrawal symptoms, which contains an extract of propolis or chrysin isolated therefrom as an active ingredient. Specifically, the extract of propolis or chrysin isolated therefrom of the present invention dose dependently decreases a self intake amount of alcohol in a self-administration experiment, which is a behavioral experiment technique suitable for researching behavioral measurement related to drug-taking and drug-seeking. By ascertaining the fact that the above characteristic has no influence on a sucrose reinforcing effect when experimenting sucrose self-taking through a 20% sucrose solution intake to check whether or not the above characteristic influences a natural reinforcing effect, the composition can be used as a pharmaceutical composition and a health supplement for preventing and treating alcohol intoxication and withdrawal symptoms.
