    Abstract: PURPOSE: An air conditioner for a hybrid electric vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to heat or cool a battery in proper temperature and to maximize heating efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner for a hybrid electric vehicle comprises a blower(10), a battery(12), an air cleaner(16), a first valve(21), a third piping(33), a PTC(positive temperature coefficient) heater(14), a second valve(22), and a controller. The blower blows indoor air or outdoor air according to indoor temperature and battery temperature. The battery is connected to a first pipe(31) to a vent of the blower. The first valve supplies the air blown from the blower to the battery or air cleaner. The third piping is expanded from battery and is connected to the air cleaner. The PTC heater is installed in the third pipe and heats the air passed through the battery. The second valve selectively discharges the air, passed through the battery, to outside or supplies to the air cleaner or battery.
