Abstract: Supported metallocene catalysts are claimed which are obtd. by (a) depositing a mixt. of (A) a metallocene complex(es) of formula (I) and (B) a metal cpd(s). of formula (II) on a support which is opt. pretreated with a metal cpd(s). of formula (III); and (b) activating the system by reacting with a soln. or suspension of a cpd. which forms metallocenium ions. M )m(X )o (II) M )p(X )q (III) M = Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb or Ta; X = F, Cl, Br, I, H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or OR ; R = 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or alkaryl, aralkyl, fluoroalkyl or fluoroaryl with 1-10C alkyl and 6-20C aryl gps.; R -R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 5-7C cycloalkyl (opt. substd. with 1-10C alkyl), or 6-15C aryl or aralkyl, opt. with 2 adjacent gps. forming a 4-15C ring or Si(R )3; R = 1-10C alkyl, 6-15C aryl or 3-10C cycloalkyl; Y = Si, Ge, Sn or C; R = H, 1-10C alkyl, 3-10C cycloalkyl or 6-15C aryl; n = 1, 2, 3 or 43; E = -O-, -S-, -NR - or -PR -; R = 1-10C alkyl, 3-10C cycloalkyl, 6-15C aryl, alkaryl or Si(R )3; R = 1-10C alkyl, 8-10C cycloalkyl, 6-15C aryl or alkaryl; M = alkali, alkaline earth or Gp.III metal; R = as for R (except for F-substd. gps.); X = F, Cl, Br or I; m = 1-3; o = 0-2; m+o = valency of M ; M = as for M , R = as for R ; X = F, Cl, Br or I; p = 1-3; q = 0-2; and p+q = valency of M . Abstract: A process for producing polymers of alkenes by gas phase polymerisation in the presence of catalyst systems where use is made of supported catalyst systems obtainable by A) reacting an inorganic support material with a metal compound of the general formula (I) M (R )r(R )s(R )t(R )u in which M is an alkaline or alkaline earth metal or a metal from main group III or IV of the periodic system, R is hydrogen, C1-C10 alkyl, C6-C15 aryl, alkyl or aryl alkyl with 1 to 10 C atoms in the alkyl radical and 6 to 20 C atoms in the aryl radical, R to R are hydrogen, C1-C10 alkyl, C6-C15 aryl, alkyl aryl or aryl alkyl, alkoxy or dialkylamino with 1 to 10 C atoms in the alkyl radical and 6 to 20 C atoms in the aryl radical, r is a whole number from 1 to 4 and s, t, and u are whole numbers from 0 to 3, where the sum r+s+t+u corresponds to the valency of M , B) reacting the material obtained from A) with a metallocene complex in its metal dihalogenide from and a metallocenium ion-forming compound and C) subsequent reaction with a metal compound of the general formula (II) M (R )o(R )p(R )q in which M is a metal of main group III of the periodic system, R is hydrogen, C1-C10 alkyl, C6-C15 aryl, alkyl aryl or aryl alkyl with 1 to 10 C atoms in the alkyl radical and 6 to 20 C atoms in the aryl radical, R and R are hydrogen, halogen, C1-C10 alkyl, C6-C15 aryl, alkyl aryl, aryl alkyl or alkoxy with 1 to 10 C atoms in the alkyl radical and 6 to 20 C atoms in the aryl radical, o is a whole number from 1 to 3 and p and q are whole numbers from 0 to 2 where the sum o+p+q corresponds to the valency of M .

Abstract: The process involves the free-radical copolymerisation of maleic anhydride and of vinyl alkyl ethers and the subsequent reaction of the copolymer with alkanol and is characterised in that the vinyl alkyl ether component is in excess in the reaction mixture in all phases of the polymerisation, the free-radical copolymerisation is carried out in acetone, and the acetone is removed by distillation at temperatures of up to 70 DEG C during or after the ester formation.
