Abstract: >A process for the preparation of propylene-ethylene copolymers by two-step polymerisation from the gas phase in an agitated fixed bed by means of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system which, in addition to a titanium-containing solids component, also contains, as cocatalyst, an aluminium compound, where the Ziegler-Natta catalyst system used is one which, after the reaction of the titanium-containing solids component with the cocatalyst, is deactivated by reaction with carbon dioxide.

Abstract: The catalyst system contains (a) a complex cpd. obtd. by grinding 100 mol. pts. of a substance of formula TiCl3.0.33AlCl3 (I) with 5-50 mol. pts. of a cpd. of formula (R )3POn (II) (b) an Al cpd. of formula (R )3Al (III) and (c) an organo-Si cpd. of formula (R )mSi(OR )4-m (IV); R = 1-8C alkyl or 6-10C aryl; n = 0 or 1; R = 1-8C alkyl; R = 1-10C alkyl or 4-8C cycloalkyl; R = 1-8C alkyl; m = 1, 2 or 3. Also claimed is the prodn. of polymers of 2-8C alk-l-enes by polymerisation of the alkenes in the gas phase at 40-150 deg C and 10-100 bar in the presence of the above Ziegler-Natta catalyst system. Also claimed are polymers obtd. by this process.

Abstract: Random copolymers (I) of propylene with ethylene and 4-10 carbon (C) alk-1-ene(s), with a melting point of 135 degrees C (by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method), are obtained by polymerising the monomers from the gas phase, in the absence of a liquid reaction medium, at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system containing (a) solid component containing titanium (Ti), a halogenated magnesium (Mg) compound, an electron donor and an inorganic oxide as carrier, (b) an aluminium (Al) compound and (c) another electron donor compound. The novelty is that the ratio of the partial pressures is adjusted to (20-100):1 for propylene and ethylene and (2.5-20):1 for 4-10 C alk-1-ene(s) and ethylene. Also claimed are: (i) the production of (I) in this way; and (ii) films, fibres or mouldings containing (I).

Abstract: Statistical propylene copolymers with 2-10C alk-1-ene comonomer (alkene) units are claimed, obtained by polymerisation of propylene and alkene at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar with a mean residence time of 0.5-5 hrs., in presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst with: (a) a titanium-containing solid component containing a magnesium compound, a halogen, a silica gel support and a carboxylate ester as electron donor; plus (b) an aluminium compound; and (c) another electron donor as cocatalysts. The silica gel support has an average particle diameter of 5-200 mu m and an average primary particle diameter of 1-10 mu m, and contains 5-20 vol% of pores or channels with an average diameter of 1-10 mu m. Also claimed is a process for the production of propylene copolymers.
