    Abstract: Random copolymers (I) of propylene with ethylene and 4-10 carbon (C) alk-1-ene(s), with a melting point of 135 degrees C (by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method), are obtained by polymerising the monomers from the gas phase, in the absence of a liquid reaction medium, at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar in the presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system containing (a) solid component containing titanium (Ti), a halogenated magnesium (Mg) compound, an electron donor and an inorganic oxide as carrier, (b) an aluminium (Al) compound and (c) another electron donor compound. The novelty is that the ratio of the partial pressures is adjusted to (20-100):1 for propylene and ethylene and (2.5-20):1 for 4-10 C alk-1-ene(s) and ethylene. Also claimed are: (i) the production of (I) in this way; and (ii) films, fibres or mouldings containing (I).

    Abstract: Statistical propylene copolymers with 2-10C alk-1-ene comonomer (alkene) units are claimed, obtained by polymerisation of propylene and alkene at 50-100 degrees C and 15-40 bar with a mean residence time of 0.5-5 hrs., in presence of a Ziegler-Natta catalyst with: (a) a titanium-containing solid component containing a magnesium compound, a halogen, a silica gel support and a carboxylate ester as electron donor; plus (b) an aluminium compound; and (c) another electron donor as cocatalysts. The silica gel support has an average particle diameter of 5-200 mu m and an average primary particle diameter of 1-10 mu m, and contains 5-20 vol% of pores or channels with an average diameter of 1-10 mu m. Also claimed is a process for the production of propylene copolymers.
