Abstract: The present invention relates to an alkoxylated polyalkyleneimine soil dispersant having the formula: wherein R is C2-C6 linear alkylene, C3-C6 branched alkylene, and mixtures thereof; B is a continuation by branching; E is an alkyleneoxy unit having the formula:-(R1O)m(R2O)nR3wherein R1 is 1,2-propylene, 1,2-butylene, and mixtures thereof; R2 is ethylene; R3 is hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, and mixtures thereof; m is from about 1 to about 10; n is from about 10 to about 40; w, x and y are each independently from about 4 to about 200; provided at least one -(R1O) unit is attached to the backbone prior to attachment of an -(R2O) unit and further provided m+n is at least 12.

Abstract: A novel process for recovering glycols from used glycol-containing technical fluids is disclosed. Used glycol-containing technical fluids has added to it an organic solvent which forms with the glycols to be separated off, an azeotropic mixture which has a lower boiling point than the glycol itself. This azeotropic mixture is then distilled off. A typical used glycol- containing technical fluid as used is antifreeze. The preferred organic solvent is a xylene or a pseudocumene. Prior to the addition of solvent which forms the azeotropic mixture with the glycol, a water portion in the used glycol-containing technical fluid, if present, can also be advantageously first removed by distillation.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for continually producing 1,3-dioxolan-2- ones such as ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate by reacting a corresponding oxirane with carbon dioxide in liquid phase in t he presence of a catalyst. The reaction is carried out in a two-part reactor. In the first part of the reactor, the reaction is carried out with back-mixing until a conversion rate of oxirane II of at least 80 % has been reached. In the second part, the reaction is completed under conditions without back-mixing, the carbon dioxide being guided to the oxirane II in a counterflow throughout the reactor.

Abstract: In a process for preparing alkoxylated amines or alcohols in which a reaction mixture comprising an amine or an alcohol or a mixture of two or more amines and/or alcohols and an alkylene oxide, or a mixture of two or more different alkylene oxides, is reacted in one or more successive reaction steps, at least one of the reaction steps is carried out in the presence of a basic catalyst and, in at least one of the reaction steps, formic acid or a salt of formic acid or a mixture of two or more thereof is present in the reaction mixture or the reaction mixture is admixed with formic acid or a salt of formic acid, or a mixture of two or more thereof, after the alkoxylation is complete. The alkoxylates prepared by the process of the present invention have a light color and a low odor.
