Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having excellent light stability and high solubility in oil, exhibiting high absorption peak in UV-A region and suitable as a UV-A filter. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I [the configuration of the C=C double bond is Z or E; R is H or CH3 ; R is H, a 1-6C alkyl, etc.; R is H, a 1-6C alkyl, etc; Ar is a (substituted) taryl or a (substituted) heteroaryl, preferably a 2-(alkoxycarboxy)-phenyl]. The compound can be produced by reacting a hydroxymethylene camphor compound of formula II with equimolar amount of an amine (e.g. p-aminobenzoic acid 2'-ethylhexyl ester) in the presence of a base (e.g. pyridine) or an acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid) and optionally a solvent (e.g. methanol) at 0-200 deg.C for 1-5hr. The compound of the formula I is especially suitable for cosmetics and pharmacological uses as a light-shielding agent, especially as a UV-A filter. In the case of using the compound of the formula I as an additive for a cosmetic or a cosmetic composition, it is added in an amount of 0.1-15wt.% based on the preparation.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medicine for cosmetic which is excellent in water resistance, processability, miscibility with other components and stability and shows low skin permeability and low toxicity by formulating a specific polymer bearing a UV-light absorbent organic group thereto. SOLUTION: This medicine contains a polymer of formula I (R and R' are each H, an alkali metal, an ammonium and an alkyl; X is a direct linkage and an oxoalkylene bearing an alkylene or 0; Y is a UV-light absorbent organic group; (n) is 2-800). Among compounds of formula I, a compound in which R' is an 8-20C alkyl and a compound in which Y is a group absorbing a light of wavelength of 200-400nm are preferable. As the Y, e.g. groups of formula II and formula III are illustrated. The polymer of formula I is obtained by polymerizing maleic anhydride with a monomer of formula IV.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an agent for cosmetics, containing a specific polymer to which chromophoric benzophenone groups are bonded, excellent in water resistance and skin acknowledgement, slight in skin penetrability and useful for protecting skin and hair from ultraviolet light. SOLUTION: This agent contains a polymer having repeating structural units of formula I [R is a group of formula II [(y) is 0-6]; R is R , H, an alkali metal, ammonium; R is a 3-30C alkyl, CO-R (R is a 3-30C alkyl); X is O, CH2 ; (n) is 2-400]. The polymer is obtained by producing a copolymer from maleic anhydride and an olefin of formula III, adding an auxiliary and an additive suitable for a UV light preventing agent to the copolymer and subsequently reacting the mixture with a benzophenone derivative of formula IV.
