    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce or deodorize the offensive smell and malodor generated when a plastic lens is cut, ground and polished by using cooling water containing an aroma imparting compound composed of a hydrocarbon compound or heterocyclic compound having a specific substituent. CONSTITUTION:There are the grinding of a curved surface (cutting and grinding) and the polishing of an end part called lens polishing for mainly setting a diopter in the grinding processing of a plastic lens. At the time of this grinding, cooling water containing one or more kind of an aroma imparting compound composed of a hydrocarbon compound or heterocyclic compound having at least one substituent selected from a hydroxyl group, an aldehyde group, a carbonyl group and an ester group in one molecule thereof is sprayed to a part to be ground. It is pref. to set the content of the aroma imparting compound to 0.001-0.01% by wt. of the cooling water. By this method, the irritant smell generated at the time of the cutting, polishing and grinding of the lens is reduced or deodorized and an aroma easy to receive is emitted to markedly improve working environment.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition having excellent weather resistance, water repellency, stain resistance and low frictional properties consisting essentially of a copolymer comprising specific two kinds of (meth)acrylic acid esters and a vinyl monomer containing an unsaturated group at the end. CONSTITUTION:The aimed composition consisting essentially of a copolymer comprising (A) 3-30wt.% (meth)acrylic acid esters shown by the formula (Rf is >=10F fluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkyl-containing substituent group; n is 1 or 2; R is H or methyl), (B) 20-60wt.% 5-25C alicyclic alkyl group-containing (meth) acrylic acid esters and (C) 10-77wt.% vinyl monomer (e.g., styrene or vinyl acetate) containing an unsaturated group at the end. Further the composition preferably comprises (D) 3-30wt.% functional group-containing vinyl monomer in the copolymer and a crosslinking agent capable of being reacted with the functional group.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the title resin having a high refractive index and not coloring by heat or light, by reacting a specified epoxy resin with a specified isocyanate compound and a specified sulfur compound. CONSTITUTION:The title resin is produced by reacting an at least bifunctional epoxy resin (A) (e.g., tetrabromobisphenol A glycidyl ether) with an at least bifunctional isocyanate compound (B) [e.g., bis(4-isocyanatocyclohexyl)methane] and a compound (C) having at least two functional groups reactive with component A or B and a sulfur atom. [e.g., pentaerithritol tetrakis(thioglycolate)]. Because a lens obtained from this resin contains sulfur atoms. in the resin, it has features such as a high refractive index, good balance between the refractive index and the Abbe's number, resistance to coloring by heat or light, colorlessness and transparency, a property of being slightly softened by heat, excellent durability, excellent processability and toughness.

CONSTITUTION:An at least bifunctional epoxy resin (A) such as a bisphenol glycidyl ether or a dicarboxylic acid glycidyl ester is reacted with at least one compound (B) selected from among a sulfidocarboxylic acid, di- or tri- mercaptan, a (di)mercapto carboxylic acid and a hydroxyl-substituted sulfide, etc., and being a compound containing at least two functional groups reactive with component A and an S atom at such a molar ratio that the molar ratio of the epoxy groups of component A to the epoxy group-reactive groups of component B is 0.5-2.0 in the presence of, optionally, a cure accelerator (C) such as an imidazole or a tert. amine.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optical disc base small in double refraction, water absorptivity, etc., by molding a disc base containing a thermoplastic resin, a monomer having a plurality of ethylenically unsaturated groups and a photopolymerization initiator and crosslinking this base by irradiation with a radiation. CONSTITUTION:A disc base based on a thermoplastic resin (e.g., acrylate polymer or a polycarbonate), a monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups in the molecule (e.g., ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and a photopolymerization initiator (e.g., acetophenone) is produced. This base is irradiated with a radiation from a mercury vapor lamp, xenon lamp or the like to form crosslinkages in it. In this way, an optical disc base small in double refraction, good in transferability of groove pattern, excellent in dimensional stability because of low water absorptivity, and excellent in heat softening resistance can be produced in good efficiency.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent lowering of the optical transmission performance of the titled optical fiber, even in case of using it under heating for long period by using a homopolymer contg. a compd. having one or more of double bonds capable of effecting a vinyl polymerization in a specific molecule, or the copolymer copolymerized said compd., as a core component of the titled optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:In the titled optical fiber contg. the polymer formed by the vinyl polymerization as the core component, the titled optical fiber is formed of the homopolymer contg. a phosphorous compd. which has a molecular group contg. one or more of the double bonds capable of effecting the vinyl polymerization in the molecule and is shown by formula I, or the copolymer copolymerized with said phosphorous compd., as the core component. In the formula, (n) is an integer of 1, 2 or 3, R is a molecular group, at least one of R groups contains a double bond capable of effecting the vinyl polymerization. Thus, the reduction of the optical transmission performance of the titled optical fiber can be prevented, even in case of using it under heating for the long period.
