Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain such a nonlinear optical material that the nonlinear optical const. is increased, a uniform thin film can be easily obtd., thermal property of the material is stabilized in air, and the material can be easily handled, by using a plane-type complex obtd. by producing a chelate from two ligands having two C=N double bonds with the nitrogen atoms bonded to metal. CONSTITUTION:The material consists of a plane-type complex obtd. by producing a chelate from two ligands having two C=N double bonds with the nitrogen atoms bonded to metal. This plane-type org. metal complex and the production method of a thin film are not specified but any method can be used. As a typical method of the complex which is generally and preferably adopted, reaction of a compd. which acts as the ligand and a metal chloride is effected in an alcohol soln. By this method, the object plane-type org. metal complex can be obtd. The thin film is produced by vacuum vapor deposition or solvent coating method. In this case, if necessary, other material such as halogen except the ligand comp. may be added.

CONSTITUTION:This optical material consists of the supporting film consisting of the synthetic resin which can be dissolved in the common solvent for the diacetylene compd. and the diacetylene compd. which is subjected to the solid phase polymn. therein. The mixing ratios based on the volume of the supporting film and the diacetylene compd. are specified to a 5:1 to 1:20 range. Polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, etc., which are soluble in the common solvent for the diacetylene compd. are used as the synthetic resin to be used in this embodiment. Hexadiindiol-P-toluene sulfonite, etc., are usable as the solid phase polymerizable acetylene compd. Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable measurement of the thickness of a thin film in a noncontact manner with a thin film sample and handily while the thin film is being made by irradiating an organic thin film with X-rays at an angle of incidence to determine a maximal value of an intensity of X-rays at a position of an angle of reflection. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus herein used is such that is used when a normal reflection X-ray diffraction is measured and it is provided with a goniometer mechanism in which an X-ray detector is positioned in a direction of reflection angle theta, namely, in a direction of angle 2theta to incidence of X-rays when an angle of a plane of a thin film is theta with respect to a direction of incidence of X-rays. In an apparatus of such a type, theta is swept continuously to perform a recording in a relationship between an angle 2theta of the detector and a detection intensity of X rays. At this point, as some peaks are noted continuously, values of 2theta of this series of peaks are read out. Then, a film thickness is calculated using an expression II derived from a Bragg's reflection formula (formula I). In this manner, values of film thicknesses obtained for the peaks are averaged or averaged being weighted statistically to determine a film thickness.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a high-hardness plastic molding having a two-dimensional covalent bond-containing network structure, being highly crystalline and excellent in hardness and modulus, by polymerizing a diacetylenic nylon salt compound by heating in a mold under a high pressure. CONSTITUTION:A high-hardness plastic molding is produced by packing a diacetylenic nylon salt compound of formula I [wherein R1 and R2 are each a (substituted)alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene] into a mold of any desired shape and polymerizing it by heating at 100-400 deg.C and 0.5X10 -15X10 atm. A highly crystalline plastic molding in the form of a two-dimensional covalent bond-containing network can be easily produced. This molding has excellent strength and modulus and such a high hardness as to be equivalent to that of a metal, so that it is very useful as a light high-hardness material. The compound of formula I can be quantitatively obtained as a crystalline form by mixing equimolar amounts of a diacetylenecarboxylic acid of formula II (wherein R1 is as defined above) and a diamine of formula III (wherein R2 is as defined above).

Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A diacetylene nylon salt compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are alkylene or arylene which may have one or more halogen, cyano, alkyl, aryl, nitro, ether, ester, amide, hydroxyl, carbonyl or sulfonyl groups). USE:Useful as a high-strength polymeric material. A crosslinked two-dimensional polymer crystal having completely oriented rigid polydiacetylene chain and completely oriented polyamide chain forming a hydrogen bond can be produced by solid-phase polymerization and solid-phase polycondensation. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced stoichiometrically as a precipitated crystal by mixing a diacetylenecarboxylic acid of formula II with equimolar amount of a diamine of formula III. When both compounds of formula II and formula III are liquid, the compounds are mixed with each other as it is and when the compounds are solid or liquid, an organic solvent such as methanol is used in the mixing operation.
