Abstract: The polyesters (I) are based on A) 30-60 mol.% 4-hydroxybenzoic acid B) 20-35 mol.% mixt., in molar ratio 1.04:1-19:1, of B1) terephthalic acid and B2) isophthalic acid C) 20-35 mol.% mixt. of C1) hydroquinone C2) 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl C3) 0.5-5 mol.% C3a) 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene and/or C3b) resorcinol and/or C3c) dihydroxy cpd. of formula (I) X = CH2,C(Me)2, S, SO2, O, or CO, opt. substd. in nucleus by Cl, Br, Aryl, or 1-8C alkyl or alkoxy, and/or C3d) cpd. of formula (II) X' = NH2 or OH with substits. m- or p- to each other, opt. substd. in nucleus by Cl, Br, aryl, or 1-8C alkyl or alkoxy where molar ratio C1:C2 = 0.1:1-2.67:1, molar ratio B:C = 0.9:1-1.1:1. Prepn. of (I) by one-stage polycondensation in melt of A, B1, B2, C1, C2, and C3 in presence of 5-60% molar excess, on total OH content, anhydride of 2-6C alkanecarboxylic acid, opt. with postcondensation in solidphase. Dimensionally stable mouldings contg. (I) are claimed. C3 is pref. C3a and/or C3b or C3c where X = C(Me)2, S, SO2, O, or CO. C3d is 4- and/or 3-aminophenol. Molar ratio B1:B2 = 1.5:1-10:1. Molar ratio C1:C2 = 0.5:1-2.33:1.

Abstract: Process for the continuous preparation of aromatic polycondensates from a) aromatic hydroxy-, thio- and/or aminocarboxylic acids, b) aromatic dihydroxy-, dithio-, diamino- and/or hydroxy-amino compounds c) if desired urea and d) a molar amount of aromatic dicarboxylic acids which is equivalent to the sum of components b) and c), by 1. reacting components a), b) and d) and, if used, c) with lower fatty acid anhydrides in excess, at a temperature of from 140 to 280 DEG C while distilling off the fatty acids and fatty acid anhydrides, 2. passing the oligomer mixture from top to bottom through a vertical precondensation zone forming a two-phase mixture of prepolymers and vapour-form fatty acids, 3. separating the prepolymers from the vapour-form fatty acids and 4. condensing the prepolymer in a condensation zone to give a polycondensate which is suitable for granulation.

Abstract: Fully aromatic thermotropic polyesters are based on (A) from 30 to 60 mol % of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, (b) from 20 to 35 mol % of a mixture of (B1) terephthalic acid and (B2) isophthalic acid, the molar ratio of B1 to B2 being from 1.04:1 to 19:1, and (C) from 20 to 35 mol % of a mixture of (C1) hydroquinone, (C2) 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl and (C3) from 0.5 to 5 mol % of (C31) 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene and/or (C32) 1,3-dihydroxybenzene and/or (C33) and aromatic dihydroxy compound of the general formula I (I) where X is -CH2-, -C(CH3)2-, -S-, -SO2-, -O- or -CO-, and/or (C34) a compound of the general formula II (II) where Y is NH2 or OH, the molar ratio of C1 to C2 being from 0.1:1 to 2.67:1 and the molar ratio of B to C being from 0.9:1 to 1.1:1.
