Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a sebaceous gland-inhibiting agent capable of effectively suppressing excess sebum, causing no side effect even when used for long periods and being employed in the forms of an emulsified cosmetic, an oily cosmetic, etc., by containing an isoflavone compound as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A sebaceous gland-inhibiting agent contains an isoflavone compound of the formula (R , R and R are H, chain or alicyclir hydrocarbon or 1-6C alkoxyl; A, B, C and D are H, hydroxy or methoxy, but R and C are not H simultaneously) as an active ingredient. The isoflavone compound of the formula can be used not only is the form of the especially isolated substance but only in the state of an extract separated from a plant belonging to e.g. the Rosaceae, Moraceae, Inidaceae, etc., as well as to two the subfamilies of the Leguminosae. When used an emulsified skin cosmetic or a hair cosmetic, the compound or extract is suitably compounded in the preparation in an amount of 0.005-5.0wt.% or 0.001-50%, respectively.

The lactosylceramide synthetase has an amino acid sequence of the formula, and the enzyme is obtained by culturing cells transformed by a recombinant DNA including a lactosylceramide synthetase gene and gathering the lactosylceramide synthetase from the cultured material.

It has high age-stability to light and heat and is soluble easily in a solvent for cosmetic. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the compound of formula II with a halogenation reagent in an inert solvent and reacting the resultant compound of formula III with an alcohol in the presence of a base.

Abstract: PURPOSE:A cosmetic capable of raising water retention ability of keratin layer and showing excellent improving and preventing effect on chapped skin, containing a lipid derivative extracted and isolated from skin, brain, egg, etc., of animal and a surface active agent. CONSTITUTION:A cosmetic containing a lipid derivative shown by formula I (R1 is 15C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group; R2 is 16-26C which may contain H or OH; X is H, monosaccharide or polysaccharide residue) and a surface active agent. The lipid derivative is extracted and isolated from skin, brain, egg, etc., of animal and, for example, sphingosine, cerebroside, ganglioside, etc., may be cited as the lipid derivative. The amount of the lipid derivative is 0.01-40wt% in the case of emulsified cosmetic and 0.1-50wt% in the case of oily cosmetic. A glyceryl ether shown by formula II (R3 is 8-24C alkyl) is preferable as the surface active agent and the amount of the surface active agent blended is preferably 0.1-5wt%.

A compound wherein CONR1R2 are substituted in the ortho position is preferable as the compound shown by the formula I and obtained by treating a dibenzoylmethanecarboxylic acid derivative shown by the formula II with a halogenating reagent in an inert solvent to give a phenacylidene phthalide shown by the formula III and reacting the compound with an amine shown by the formula HNR1R2.
