    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a skin cosmetic, containing ceramides or pseudoceramides having a specific structure, a dicarboxylic acid and a salt thereof, excellent in humectant ability, having a low irritant feeling and useful for the facial skin. CONSTITUTION: This skin cosmetic contains (A) ceramides or pseudoceramides of formula I or II (R and R are each a 9-39C straight-chain or branched chain saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups; R and R are each H, a phosphate residue, a sulfate residue or a saccharide residue), (B) a dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-X-COOH (X is a 1-6C bivalent hydrocarbon group) (preferably malonic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, etc.) and (C) a salt of the dicarboxylic acid of the formula HOOC-X-COOH. Furthermore, 0.01-20wt.% ingredient (A) is preferably contained and the total amount of the contained ingredients (B) and (C) as acids is preferably 0.01-20wt.%. The blending molar ratio of the ingredient (B) to the salt of the ingredient (C) is preferably (1/9) to (9/1).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a compound such as erectumins A and B useful as a vasodilator, a skin medicine for external use, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is H or Group expressed by formula II; R2 is H or CH3; the asterisk mark indicates asymmetric carbon atom), e.g. erectumins A and B in which R1 is the group expressed by formula II and R2 is H. The aforementioned compound is obtained by initially pulverizing Hypericum erectum Thunb., adding a solvent such as methanol or acetone to the pulverized substance, carrying out dipping and extracting at 10-60 deg.C for 1 day to 1 week, subjecting the resultant essence of the extract solution to liquid-liquid partition with methanol, water and n-hexane and fractionating the prepared n-hexane fraction.

The 5alpha-reductase inhibitor may be administered not only as such but also in the form of tablets, powder, etc. When the inhibitor is used e.g. in the form of a solid preparation, the solid preparation may contain an inert diluent such as lactose or mannitol, a lubricant such as magnesium stearate, a disintegrator such as cellulose or calcium gluconate, etc.

The amounts of both the ingredients are within the range of preferably 0.1-50wt.%, especially 1-20wt.% ingredient (A) and preferably 0.1-70wt.%, especially 1-30wt.% ingredient (B). Cholesterol (derivative) or a fatty acid can be blended in the cosmetic to thereby further improve the humectant properties and feeling of use.
