Abstract: Disclosed are a hybrid system and a controlling method thereof. The hybrid system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes an alternator for producing electricity based on the driving power of a vehicle and outputting the electricity through an inverter; a super-capacitor for storing the electricity from the inverter and discharging the stored energy towards loads; a DC-DC converter for converting the discharged energy from the super-capacitor into DC voltage for charging a battery; a monitoring unit for monitoring the super-capacitor to measure the voltage and calculating the voltage of the super-capacitor using the relation among the inverter, the super-capacitor, and the DC-DC converter unit in terms of currents; and a control unit for determining that a failure event has occurred for the super-capacitor in measuring the voltage and give a warning to a driver with the difference between the calculated voltage of the super-capacitor (V_EDLC_calculated value) and the actual voltage of the super-capacitor (V_EDLC_actual value) measured by an actual voltage sensor surpassing a reference value.

Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, a generation control system for a vehicle includes: a generator which generates electricity using torque delivered from an engine; a capacitor in which electricity generated by the generator is temporarily stored; a converter which raises or lowers the voltage of electricity received from the generator or capacitor; a battery which receives and stores electricity from the converter and supplies the electricity; an electric load unit which consumes electricity supplied from the converter or battery; and a control unit which detects the deceleration status of a vehicle and the charge status of the battery and controls the output voltage of the generator and the converter. The converter may be a DC/DC converter. Therefore, the present invention is able to change the output voltage of the converter and the generator according to the deceleration status of the vehicle and the charge status of the battery and store power in the capacitor and the battery, thereby reducing the overall fuel consumption of the vehicle. Furthermore, as the battery is efficiently charged and power is stably supplied, the electric load unit can be protected and the durability of the battery can be improved.
