    Abstract: The production of rigid polyurethane (PUR) foam with a low bulk density (I) comprises reacting (a) polyisocyanates and/or modified polyisocyanates with (b) high-mol. wt. compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogens and optionally (c) low-mol. wt. chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers in presence of (d) blowing agents, (e) catalysts and optionally (f) other additives etc. Component (d) consists of a mixture of (d-1) cyclopentane, (d-2) at least one 3-4C alkane and/or alkene which forms a homogeneous mixture with cyclopentane and (d-3) the carbon dioxide from the reaction of water and isocyanate. Component (b) comprises aromatic nitrogen-containing polyethers.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing polyether alcohols, comprising the following steps: a) reacting a low-molecular alcohol with alkylene oxide in the presence of a basic catalyst in order to form an alkylene oxide addition product having a molecular weight ranging from 200 to 900 g/mol; b) separating the basic catalyst from the product obtained in step a), and; c) reacting the product obtained in step b) with another alkylene oxide in order to produce the desired final product while using at least one DMC catalyst. The inventive method is characterized in that sodium hydroxide is used as the basic catalyst in step a).
