Abstract: Polymer blend is based ona hard component (A) and 2 graft copolymers (b) and (c). (A) consists of copolymer(s) of styrene and/or alpha-methylstyrene with 20-40 wt. % acrylonitrile (AN); (b) of (Bl) 40-80 (50-60)% butadiene polymer of average particle size 0.20-0.45 (0.26-0.35) mu m and (B2) 20-60 (40-50)% grafted mixt. of styrene and AN in 75:25 to 65:35 ratio; and (c) of (Cl) 40-80 (70-60)% crosslinked acrylic ester polymer, with Tg below 0 degree C and average particle size 0.05-0.15 (0.06-0.08) mu m, and (C2) 20-60 (30-40)% grafted mixt. of styrene and AN in 75:25 to 65:35 ratio. The ratio of (B1) to (Cl) is 70:30 to 30:70 (60:40 to 50:50) and the amt. of (B1 + Cl) in the blend ca. 10-35 (15-30)%. The blend can also contain conventional additives, esp. ethylene and/or propylene oxide polymer or a dyestuff or coloured pigment. Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic moulding composition comprising from 90 to 99% by weight, based on the moulding composition, of at least one copolymer A made from at least one vinylaromatic monomer and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The moulding composition furthermore contains from 0.5 to 5% by weight of a polyalkylene polyether B of the formula with the proviso that n may adopt values from 3 to 200, R' is H and/or CH3 and X is RCO- or R-, where R can contain 1 to 30 carbon atoms. The moulding composition furthermore contains a component C in a proportion of from 0.5 to 5% by weight which is a copolymer made from styrene and at least one further monomer unit containing at least one carboxyl function. The moulding composition may contain conventional additives and is used to produce mouldings.

Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic moulding composition comprising a copolymer A and a graft copolymer B. The copolymer A makes up from 50 to 95% by weight of the moulding composition and is built up from a monovinylaromatic monomer and an unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride as further monomer. The graft copolymer makes up from 5 to 50% by weight of the moulding composition and comprises from 20 to 80% by weight of an elastomeric graft base and from 20 to 80% by weight of a graft shell. The graft shell contains from 80 to 99% by weight of a monovinylaromatic monomer and from 1 to 20% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least one reactive terminal group from the series consisting of -OH, -SH and -NHR, where R is H, alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, aralkyl or aryl. The moulding composition may contain conventional additives and is obtained from a melt of component A with the graft copolymer B by reaction at temperatures of >/=200 DEG C. It is used to produce mouldings.

Abstract: The invention relates to a discontinuous (batch) process for the preparation of latices of polymers based on esters of acrylic acid with saturated aliphatic alcohols having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, by polymerisation of the monomers in emulsion under conventional pressure and temperature conditions, where first a mixture of water, emulsifier and an aliphatic alcohol (having 10-30 carbon atoms) is heated with stirring to temperatures above the melting point of the aliphatic alcohol, and the mixture is subsequently, if necessary, adjusted to the polymerisation temperature, and the polymerisation is carried out directly after the preparation of the mixture (preemulsion) by a) introducing all the initiator or b) introducing all the monomer, optionally with some of the initiator, or c) introducing some of the monomer and at least some of the initiator into the preemulsified mixture of water, emulsifier and alcohol, and metering in (feeding) the respective total or remaining amounts of monomer or initiator during the polymerisation.
