    Abstract: The invention describes cationically modified particulate anionic polyurethanes having a particle size from 10 nm to 10 mum, the particulate polyurethanes being cationically modified through surface coating with cationic polymers.     Abstract: Preparation of an aqueous dispersion containing a dispersed polyurethane from (a) 4-30C diisocyanates, (b,c) diols, (d) multivalent compounds with reactive groups, (e) monovalent compounds with reactive groups comprises reacting components to give a polyurethane, dispersing ion water and completion of the reaction. An aqueous dispersion containing a dispersed polyurethane is prepared from: (a) 4-30C diisocyanates; (b) diols devoid of urethane and urea groups, of which (b1) 10-95 mole% on the total weight of diols have a molecular weight of 500-5000, and (b2) 5-90 mole% on the total weight of diols have a molecular weight of 60-500 g/mole, (i.e. an alkane diol (b2.1) or an alkane diol which also has a hydrophilic group or a potential hydrophilic group (b2.2)); (c) where the diols (b2.2) are not present or present only in sufficient amount to ensure water dispersibility, and of monomers (a) and (b) there are several monomers with at least one isocyanate group or at least one isocyanate reactive group, of which at least one is a hydrophilic group or a potential hydrophilic group, which ensure the water dispersibility of the polyurethane; (d) optionally further monomers (a) and (b), i.e. several multivalent compounds with a reactive group, i.e. alcoholic OH groups , primary or secondary amine or isocyanate groups; and (e) optionally further monomers (a) and (b), i.e. several monovalent compounds with a reactive group , i.e. alcoholic OH groups, primary or secondary amine or isocyanate groups, Preparation of the aqueous dispersion comprises (i) a macrodiol (b1) is reacted with enough diisocyanate to start the reaction, the ratio of isocyanate groups to alcohol groups is 0.1:1 to 0.9:1, and the reaction is continued until the maximum NCO content of the reaction mixture is 20% of the original value; (ii) the reaction product produced and the remaining components are reacted to give a polyurethane; (iii) this polyurethane, (or a prepolymer formed in an intermediate step) is dispersed in water; and (iv) the reaction is then continued until the polyurethane is formed. Independent claims are included for: (1) An aqueous dispersion containing the dispersed polyurethane obtained as above; (2) a composition containing the aqueous dispersion obtained as above, and pigments and other conventional leather additives; (3) an object glued or coated with the dispersion, e.g. textiles impregnated with the dispersion; (4) leather coated with the composition under (2) above.
