Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic containing a lipid obtained from cuticle cell and preferably a surfactant and capable of radically improving the moisture- retaining function of cuticle layer, giving moistness to the skin and softening the skin. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic contains a lipid obtained from the cuticle cell of mammal such as human, swine, cattle, rabbit, etc., and preferably a surfactant. The lipid derived from cuticle cell can be produced by immersing cuticle cell in a solvent such as chloroform, ethanol. acetone, etc., for 30sec-10 min to effect the preliminary extraction and removal of lipid (e.g. triglyceride, squalene, etc.) originated from sebum gland, and extracting the extraction residue with a solvent such as chloroform, ethanol, etc., at 5-40 deg.C for 2-5hr. The surfactant is nonionic, anionic or amphoteric surfactant. The cosmetic can be used in the form of cream, beauty wash, milky lotion, lipstick, hair tonic, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the real expression of the moving images of the cells with videos by successively slicing the epidermic tissues subjected to chemical immobilization and dehydration to form sliced sections, then magnifying and recording the continuously cut end faces. CONSTITUTION:The human skin excised for the purpose of a surgical operation is immersed in a buffer soln. contg. glutaraldehyde and is then fixed with an aq. osmium oxide soln.; thereafter, the skin is successively immersed into respective ethanols (aq. solns.) of 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 99%, 100%. The skin is then embedded in an epoxy resin. Of these skin tissues, the epidermis euticle is trimmed and the sliced sections are continuously formed by a microtome. These slices are arrayed and placed in serial order on slide glass and are dyed by a toluidine blue. The sections are recorded at a ratio of one sheet each per frame with a video camera. The higher effect is obtd. by continuously cutting the part (a) where the base surface A at the side and face in the case of assumption of the cut surface as a front surface draws a rising curve in the direction orthogonal with the side end face and recording these parts in order of slicing.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor useful for treating and preventing male-hormone related epidemics such as male alopecia, hirsutism, prostatic hypertropy, etc., containing an extract from leaves and/or pericarp of walnut as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Leaves and/or pericarp of walnut is preferably dried, powdered, immersed and extracted with a solvent (e.g. polyethylene glycol) at normal temperature or under pressure or extracted with Soxhlet's extractor to give an extract. The extract may be directly used as it is as a 5alpha-reductase or mixed with ordinary drug additives and pharmaceutically manufactured into tablet, powder, granule, capsule, solution, etc., by a conventional procedure to give the aimed substance. A dose is 1mg-1g per adult one time and administered one time - several times/day in the case of prostatic hypertropy and a dose is 10mug-100mg and administered one time - several times/day in the case of apopecia treatment.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor containing an extract of liverwort or liverwort callus as an active component and effective for suppressing the excessive production of dihydrotestosterone causing apopecia, acne, prostatomegaly, etc. CONSTITUTION:Liverwort or liverwort callus is extracted with an organic solvent, preferably a 5/1-1/5 (vol) mixture of a hydrophilic organic solvent and a hydrophobic solvent and the extract is used as a 5alpha-reductase inhibitor. The 5alpha-reductase is useful as a preventive and remedy for diseases caused by excessive production of dihydrotestosterone, e.g. male apopecia, acne, prostatomegaly, etc., by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. It is administered systemically or locally by oral or parenteral administration.
